Good call with the float valve, check float level, is it adjustable? Make sure the jets are correct size, and re-installed in the proper place. Blow thru passage ways, and jets with carb cleaner and compressed air.If you're still having problems just swing by and I'll take care of you. Oh wait, this is the internet. You're in Penn. Hey bring by some of that Rolling Rock.

Don't use the carb cleaner until you've removed the piston diaphragms "sliders". They are thin rubber and carb cleaner loves to eat them for breakfast. New, they are at least $120 EA.

yeah, Im waiting on o-rings and new gaskets before I take apart anything else. dont want to mess with them too much till I got them in. Im gonna check each carb individually, not pull apart all 4 at once. What is the screw that you can back out on the bottom of the float bowl? It doesnt seem to meter air or fuel.

It drains the float bowl. For use when the carbs are on the bike. Drain the carbs before taking them apart...

hey guys, the manual doesnt say how many turns out, from all in, for the air mixture screw. Just says to take it to the dealer/shop to adjust. I think I heard 2 1/2 turns to start from, then go from there, in or out. Does this sound right?

Thanks to all of you who lent some advice and tips. I got the carbs, including new boots, 2 of them were new to begin with, installed and new gaskets and o-rings. The carbs were a royal PITA to get seated correctly, you have to seat the fronts first then the rears. 3 hours later and the bike is back together again. Made sure all my connections were made secure and everything was tightened. I did a bench synch as mentioned. All throttle plates were showing the first small hole of three in the bore. Just need a piece of plastic, my new chain peened, and a precise carb sync, and Im ready......

    Good work, Dan!

You'll always feel a special pleasure while riding knowing YOU, not some poxy shop, fixed your bike.

K, the bike starts fine with the choke, and idles fine/1200rpm with the choke off, but, when I twist the throttle the bike dies, everytime. I have not gotten it to a shop to get a good carb sync yet. What, if anything, can I do to possibly help the situation so I can ride it to the shop?

a synch-job will not fix the problem you describe.

your carbs are probably not supplying sufficient fuel to run above idle, so consult your service manual, section 4-2 to begin sorting out why.

Well... turns out that I had the petcock turned off still. Dur, te dur, te dur.
In all the excitement I just forgot to turn it on!!
I had it on briefly initially, then turned it off and forgot.
