Having done so on my previous bike (a Moto Guzzi V11), I did the same to my '07 VFR.... Buell footpegs. For the whopping cost of about $25 and another $20 to the local machine shop, I just added about an inch or so more leg room. Being 6'2", it is a big difference. You can shim the Honda pin with a spacer and the Honda springs work just fine. I had the machine shop take off close to 1mm on the top and bottom "tooth" of the peg to make it fit. I never had any issues with the pegs strength on my other bike and there seems to be plenty of meat left after some small machinework that peg strength shouldn't be an issue.

I mail-ordered my pegs from Surdyke H-D (20% off internet orders!) so if anyone is interested I'll find the part # at home and send it to you.

    Cheers!

    Carl

I am not savvy enough to post pics here. If someone could help me, I could email them the pics and they could post them? Otherwise, just send me your email address and I'll send you the pictures. Sorry, guys.

    Thanks,

    Carl

Question for anyone who has installed the Buell pegs. Since they do not have rubber on them like the VFR pegs do, are there any issues with extra vibration? Are there any drawbacks to doing this modification?

I haven't noticed any drawbacks and vibration isn't an issue. The only thing that took some finessing was to grind away a bit of metal here and there to get it to freely "swing" all the way back in the bracket after machining off both sides to allow it to fit. Otherwise, from a usefullness point of view, I can't think of any drawbacks.

Oh, and unlike the Guzzi V11 I had done this to, the Honda shifter and brake pedal ARE adjustible, which makes this modification all the more beneficial.

I recently installed the Buell Pegs. They cost me about $25 total from the local Harley / Buell dealer. I got some nasty looks when I rode up on my VFR - stupid bunch of fat old wild-bunch posers - I don't get their attitude....

But back to the pegs. It took me about an hour to grind them down so they fit properly. It was an easy mod. It took all of 2 minutes to install them. It was a snap to lower the shift lever to maintain the same height relationship between the peg and the lever. I chickened out and let the dealer lower the break lever - it looked like it would be easy for me to mess up the hydraulics, and I didn't really want to go there. The dealer did it at no cost when I recently took the bike in for some service. They are about 1 inch lower. I suppose I could drag them a bit earlier if I really pushed it, but I got that stuff out of my system about 30 years ago. I also had them install a Stebel Nautilus air horn. They found a spot in the faring where it fits perfectly. It was about $100 for them to install it, but worth every penny. Believe the ads, that thing is LOUD!

I love the additional room with the pegs - an extra inch makes a big difference  . I've got two arthritic knees, and after about 125 miles on the bike they would get pretty sore. Now I can do 250 miles with no problems at all. I haven't gone any further at one time yet 'cause its too hard to get a hall pass for that long (with a pre-menoausal wife and 2 teen age daughters in the house, I consider my VFR to be a life raft in a raging sea of estrogen).

I'm hanging on to the stock pegs. IF Honda ever comes out with an updated VFR (2010 maybe?) I may trade up, and reinstall them when I sell. My VFR is an '06. I love it. BUT I do hope that if Honda does an update, the bike will get a bit less porky (which is only really noticable when I'm backing it out of the garage), and I would like gear driven cams. I'd gladly trade the bit of extra growl when the V-TEC kicks in for some high RPM whine. Oh yeah, a couple hundred extra CC's, 20 more hp and 10 ft/lbs of additional torque would be nice.

I think all the magazines are right - the VFR (either pre or post V-TEC) is one of the best road bikes ever. The new pegs only make it sweeter.
