the dealer who repaced the battery could have taken an extra 10 minutes to completely test the stator......too bad he didn't!!

IN fact, he should have routinely tested the charging system after battery was installed to prevent a possible come-back, time to test, 30 seconds.

HONDA reduced diameter of most wiring after 3rd generation, i believe.

WOW. thats a bad deal, but hey, you got a 6th gen now! cool deal! A new toy!
I go to SD a few times a year for work (to Pt. Loma) so I will have to look you and the Stooka up when I get there next!

I am jealous of your long desertish roads and current warm weather. It is just starting to thaw in the great white north.

You will find a ton of knowledge for fixes/mods/sillyness here for the VFR, welcome to the world!!

my 86 700 f2 has seen similar smoke. fried battery, stator, and regulator at deals gap. no fire tho only 2 hours from cabin. did have aftermarket reg/rect. put o.e magna one back on. that day sucked i remember rotten eggs smell then bike started bucking and shut off quickly. sounds like this is a vfr issue not just by gen.

Nicoliusmc, any 6gen that's had the recall done should have a dot punched next to the VIN on the steering head.

this happened to me on my 86 vfr 700 and i prevented its somewhat spontaneous combustion,by quickly removing sidecover and pulling the fuse.only resulting in toasted wires.
