98-01 service manual missing pages

    Hi,

    newbie to VFR and VFRworld...

    I just bought a vfr 2001, it's 32 000Km and valves were never adjusted. I want to do it myself and I d/l the honda service manual but some pages are missing.
    I think the missing pages are something like 8-8 to 8-11.

    I downloaded it from 3 places and it's always the same manual.

    Does someone has those pages ??

    I have the actual manual. Basically it says:

    Remove the air joint collars and O-rings. <--- up at the top this is last step of cylinder head removal.

    Then highlighted is:

    CYLINDER HEAD COVER DISSASSEMBLY
    Remove the cylinder head cover packings.

    Remove bolts and breather separator plate and gasket from rear cylinder head cover.

    Remove the bolts and PAIR reed valve cover.

    (Now page 8-9)
    Check the PAIR reed valves for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.


    CAMSHAFT REMOVAL

    Remove the front and rear cylinder head covers (page 8-4)

    Removing the timing hole cap and O-ring.



    Front:
    Turn the crankshaft clockwise, align the "4T" mark on the ignition pulse generator rotor with the index mark on the right crankcase cover.



    Make sure that the index lines on the front camshaft gear are facing outward and that the No. 4 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke.

    Rear:
    Turn the crankshaft clockwise 3/4 turn (270 degrees), align the "3T" mark on the ignition pulse generator rotor with the index mark on the right crankcase cover.

    Make sure that the index lines on the rear camshaft gear are facing outward and that the No. 3 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke.

    Front/Rear:
    Loosen the camshaft holder B bolts gradually in several steps and remove each camshaft holder B.
    Loosen the camshaft holder A bolts and then remove the camshaft holder A and camshafts.

    CAUTION: From outside to inside, loosen the bolts in a crisscross pattern in several steps or the camshaft holder might break.

    Note:
    - Mark or paint identification for front cylinder or rear.
    - It is not necessary to remove the dowel pins from the camshaft holders

    Remove the joint collars and O-rings from the cylinder head.

    INSPECTION

    CAMSHAFT HOLDER
    Inspect the bearing surface of the camshaft holder for scoring, scratches, or evidence of insufficient lubrication.
    Inspect the oil orifices of the holders for clogging.

    CAMSHAFT RUNOUT
    Support both ends of the camshaft journals with V-blocks and check the camshaft runout with a dial gauge.

    SERVICE LIMIT 0.05 MM (0.002 IN)

    CAM LOBE HEIGHT
    Using a micrometer, measure each cam lobe height.

    SERVICE LIMITS:
    In: 49 states/Canada type: 36.21mm (1.426 in)
    Cali type: 35.31mm (1.390 in)
    Ex: 49 states/Canada type: 36.05 mm (1.419 in)
    Cali type: 35.15 mm (1.384 in)


    CAMSHAFT OIL CLEARANCE
    Wipe any oil from the journals of the camshaft, cylinder head and camshaft holders.
    Lay a strip of plastigauge lengthwise on top of each camshaft journal.

    Unfortunatey, I don't have anything of high enough quality for the pics at the moment. Perhaps later I can snap a high res pic and crop the insets for you. Now, in exchange, I hop you will take pics of your progress as you go and type up a how-to for all of us who are afraid to try this at home.

    Thanks a lot.

    Basically, I wanted the pages to evaluate the toughness of the job before doing it myself. I'm not sure i'll do it but i'll think of it for something like a month or two, time for all the snow here to melt :mad:

    Don't be upset when you go through all the effort and find the valves are perfectly within tolerances...

    That's why we ride Hondas.

    Yeah probably...
    but I want to take good care of it...

    So I decided, like service manual says to at least inspect clearance. This part is easy enough. No cams removal, just head cover. If I have to adjust the valves I'll decide when head cover will be removed. Pretty sure i'll do it to save 3-5 hours or laborship (that's what dealer said to me yesterday).

    As probably some of you have noticed, english is not my prefered language...So pictures are great for me to understand directives sometimes. So if someone may do a scan of those pages it would be really great ! (thanks a lot reg71 for typing all procedure ! )
