I have an 06 vfr. I am going on a 2500 mile round trip ride to the gap in the end of april. I want to put new rubber on for the long trip. I am settled on conti road attacks. My question is that I have the stock front dunlop with 2000 miles on it sitting at my house. would it be stupid to put a conti road rear with the stock dunlop that has little wear up front. why bern up two new tires when I have one sitting in the basement.

I've done that several times in the past while I waited for the other tired to wear down. I never had a problem, but it may depend on what tread compound of tire you put on which could make it handle different than you are accustomed to.

    Keep da rubber side down!

If the OEM Dunlop is the D204 I would throw it in the bin and put the two new Conti's on.

I generally find that I replace two back tires to one front tire and I haven't noticed any issues. I do not believe it makes much difference, as long as their both radials. FWIW.

I don't recomend running mis matched makes, but -

If your not pushing them & there both speed rated the same, than OK.
But if different speed rated don't do it,

I'd go with the new Dunlop Road Smarts, 2nd choice of the Conti Road Attacks.

can't go wrong with the Conti's but the new Road Smarts are getting rave revues by riders & the Mags for the best all weather sport touring tyre out there now

    p.s.
yes the 204's are junk/old school tech.

They are the 204's. I rode them hard when I first got the bike and wore the rear in 2k miles (no burn outs). I never had the front slip on me. I am going to Deals gap but plan to not ride it to hard because my bike is my ride home. Just figured I could burn the front stock tire and not waste it. Im not going to a track day. The 204's cant be that bad. they are just not that good.

    Yes they can.

After my first good ride down my favourite Alpine Passes, I was angry at Honda for putting such shite tyres on the VFR
OEM they squirmed and slipped and I very nearly lost confedence in my then new late '03 Gen 6 VFR. :frown:

I junked the D204's after only 2000 miles and was stunned what a supurb bike the VFR become on the then just launched Pilot Powers in early '04 when fanging around the same Alpine passes a few months later.

Thanks guys. Just picked up the front and rear road attacks from my local dealer. They were in stock. cost me 211.00 out the door. will be mounting them before my trip to the gap or when my pilot powers are shot.
