    Hi,
My friend is willing to sell me his 93 VFR for $2300. The bike has 20k miles on it, and is is great condition.

So I've been doing research on the bike. It's a VFR, so of course it is a great bike. But I was just wondering if you'all could offer some opinions/references/heads-up for the 93 model. I feel like I'm getting a good deal, but wanted to get the opinions of this community.

    Thanks.

Don't think just buy, it's a good price even w/ some slight cosmetic issues still a good price. Very unlikely you will regret it, unless maintenance is something it has never seen.

20,000. Hmmmm....about time for a new chain and sprocket, if it has never been done before. Check that.

Also check the regulator/rectifier. Thats the VFR's biggest problem in the earlier 3rd, 4th and 5th gens.

Did it have its valves checked at 16,000 miles? Since its such a rockstar engine, there is a good chance they will be pretty spot on.

Besides that, just make sure it runs nice.

However yeah, $2300 seems to be a good deal on that bike.

Good luck, welcome to the forum, and send pics when you can. VFR's are awesome bikes.

    Thanks for the input!

I've attached a pic of the bike. I love the white!

Can you guys/gals give me a idea of what the valve job costs and at what mileage it usually occurs? Also, what does the chain/sprocket job cost? Thanks!

BTW, I'm going forward with the purchase! Can't wait to be a VFR owner!

The valve job is just an inspection. If you had it done professionally its just all time/labor. I should run you about $200. It starts costing more, when they need adjusting.

A chain and sprocket kit can be had for about $150 if you buy it yourself online.
A shop might charge you $250 for the same thing, and an hour to install.

It might need fresh oil, filter and air filter, which will run you about $100 all up if you put synthetic in there.
    Oh, and plugs.

If the bike does not come with a maintenance record, best to plan to do these service type things (oil, filters, plugs) immediately, since they are cheap, and have to be done at some point anyway.

Very nice looking machine though. Looks to be in great shape. I say go for it.

At first I was thinking 83 ....but a 93 (3rd gen) is a nice bike; price seems in the ball park.
