Getting the bike on the center stand with solo seat cowl on...

Any tricks to do this?

I can't pull up on anything when I have the solo cowl on, and my wrists are poor as well.

Here's what you do:

1. With your left hand hold on to the clutch handgrip
2. With your right hand reach under the wheel well. You should have your hand cupping the left rear cowl with your fingers inside the rear well
3. With your right foot push down the centerstand and pull your right hand up
4. Voila! Bike's on centerstand!

 

I use that procedure, but I grab the passenger peg with my reight hand pull up and back. You just need to find a point on the bike you can grab with your right hand and comfortable pull at that point up and back as you do the same with the clutch side grip, all the while having your foot on the centerstand and in one continous motion pull up with both hands and apply pressure to the centerstand with your foot.

 

You can pull on that? I'm away from the house for 3 weeks so I can't try this out... I figured I'd bust the rear plastic if I pulled on the cowling...

I tried the passenger peg thing.. wrenched my back too... :doh:

 

Try not pulling up so hard on the passenger peg bracket. The majority of your energy should be pushing down on the centerstand with your foot, and pulling back on the handlebar with your left arm. I "assume the position", establish a balanced posture, then push down with most of my body weight on the centerstand, pull back on the bar, and pull up and slightly back on the bracket. The key to avoiding injury is to do it smoothly without jerking. Pulling up on the bracket is just to provide the slight additional force necessary for the centerstand to over-center itself.

 

I agree with 001. It doesn't take all that much pulling when you get the technique down. I yanked and jumped and kicked and swore and still couldn't do it. Then the previous owner showed me how. More pressure on the stand, pulling back on the clutch handle and guiding upward with the right hand under the fairing. There is very little stress placed on the fairing at all. Good Luck.

 

+1 for more down pressure on the center stand. The second most amount of force should be applied to pulling the bike back using your left hand on the grip. I grab the passenger foot peg with my right hand, however only to balance the bike.

 

All good advise it's also a balancing act, once figured out it's not so hard, but trying to get all the motions needed does take some technic, if you can find a smaller bike to practice on, that would help out. GL, practice makes perfect, oh please tell us you didn't lower it? the reason I say this is I help out a gal here with hers and I was even having a time of it, only to find out she had lowered it, which takes the leverage out of the equation talk about a brain twister Doh!

Nope the bike is stock not lowered...

I came from a Concours before I bought this bike (if you are familiar with the concours, most people can't get them on the center stand) and had no problems getting it on the centerstand...

but that procedure was the same one I would have used on the VFR, but I lacked a rear grab handle. It was fine when I had the solo seat cowl off..

When I return home I'll give these suggestions a shot!
