I got a new set of Dunlop Road Smart Tires. I am trying to get to the shop tomorrow to have them put on the bike. I got them at a good deal from Tire Express (http://www.tireexpress.com/) - $287 for the set with drop shipping (2 business days). Ordered them Sat afternoon and got them yesterday. I will be on the road this weekend in NJ, Pa and upper Westchester NY. I will let you guys know what I think about them.

I'm interested in this set of Dunlop. How much is the shipping charge? I'm in California.

Hey Irvineguy - the tires were $287.00 with shipping and I got them in two business days. I ordered them this past Sat afternoon and I got them yesterday (Holiday Mon does not count). They were able to drop ship them to me because they had them in Pa. so it was a quick hop to NYC (also used my work address so it was a business delivery). Really good deal and got a nice guy who rode to take the order. Check them out - not too many vendors got them in yet. (http://www.tireexpress.com/)

 Never heard of these, do you know if there on Dunlops web site to be able to ck them out ???

I'm going to call my tyre vendor/sponsor to see if he knows about them.

maybe they'll be good for my Sprint after the cold wet weather is done (I run the D616's for messy stuff).

 Ck'd them out on Dunlop web site & quite happy with the info & the product possibilities.

Whats strange with all my tyre experiance I'll have to relly on someone else for a 1st ride impression.
Because of the weather still, I'll stick with the D616's until April

That would be you, & I'd appreciat updates when possible:biggrin: .

Seems to be a good Summer/Spring tyre for my Sport tourers to replace my Conti's.

I am in NYC and I ride year round. I go out on weekends to Philly, Balt and other places. I am still running on Avon Storm STs. We got hit with a snow\sleet\rain storm yesterday in NYC. I was out locally and the Avons performed quite well on the street and hwy. Lots of black ice on small side streets. Today I will be riding locally and will also be in Newark, NJ, Westchester (Yonkers) and Queeens, NY. today/tonite. I should be able to get the Dunlop RoadSmart tyres on my bike on Mon. since there should be a break in the weather here. I shoud be able to scruff the Dunlop RoadSmart tyres up a little before the next predicted storm. As I have posted here before that the Avon tyres warm up quickly and wear quite well. Wish me luck still dealing with the Fi light issue I am having with my bike.

I cannot say enough about the Avon Storm ST tyres. As stated above I was out all over as usual and dealing with the after effects of a winter storm. Not a great accumulation of snow, but the sleet/rain mix with temps below 30 provide obvious hazzards. There are some cagers that just have issues with bikes. Throughout the day while riding a lot of cagers constantly challenged me on some very bad road with slush/snow and ice. I know some will call me crazy for even being out but so are they if it is that bad. I had people pressing me hard in the rear and had to go through slush snow buildups. My Avon tyres got me thru with minimal shakiness and are why I am still alive. If I had gone down I would have definately been run over. This was mostly on the streets. With wet tyres going over ice there was some shakinees but nothing extreme - scary but nothing that made me panic. While on the hwy in NJ it seemed extra dark - I was struggling to see (found out later my high beams were OUT) dumb cagers kept challenging me on mid turns while at speeds of 60 - 70ish. I did sweep more often than usual and I just had a good day with throttle control when entering turns (gotta love the VFR). I could feel the Avon tyres grip when the seat on my bike cinch to my arse. A combination of body positioning, throttle control, luck and blessings from God is what got me through. I hope the Dunlop RoadSmart tyres can do some of this. I rode from Queens NY to Yonkers, NY to Union, NJ and back home to Queens. I discovered my high beams were completely out before leaving NJ, but I had a couple of Truck club members help me out on the way back. I stayed in the middle lane and they stayed in the outside lanes. I went through Brooklyn to get back home in Queens and yeah Brooklyn is still buck wild crazy. The Dunlop RoadSmarts go on tomorrow. Another storm is being predicted for Tues so I may not get back on the road until mid to end of week. Gotta also say a world of thanks to Lee Parks and Christine for the training and instruction I received in the ARC clinics I have attended. No way I would be able to do what I have done without them.

Emon, I will be particularly interested in how the Dunlops stack up against the Avons, as I am about to mount new tires in the VFR in a week or so. I've heard nothing but good things about the Avons, but looks like you'll be first to try out the new Dunlops.

Yo Emon; Wow am I impressed, I live reasonably close to you and me and the bike aren't going anywhere soon. Its just to cooold. I admire your riding spirit,I am a good couple months from going out riding. You mentioned the ARC clinic, whats that about and is it some form of training that improves mental toughness? It's Sunday around 2 PM ,sunny and about 25 degrees F so I probably shouldnt expect a response from you for a couple hours because you are out riding. Anyway my hats off to you for your true motorcycling spirite! eddie

I got the bike to the shop and had the Dunlop RoadSmart tires put on (bought some cheap $6.50 each CandlePower H4 bulbs from the Honda Dealer). First immediate impression was a softer ride and great feedback. I rode around on the streets and wanted to scruff up a little before hitting the hwy. So far seems more stable. There is another storm being predicted for tomorrow. I hope it ends up just being rain.

    keep riding & typing

The street smarts sound like the ticket so far, but take it from another all weather rider (0 temps, rain sleet, & Snow) the D616's so far have been like Knobbies in the dirt, never had a street tyre (other than Race rains) that hook up in the nasty stuff like these things do.

    Ride safe !

No thanks, toooooo many people & friends I know have high sided on those things when pushed to hard.

They last & handle great, just no warning when they let go
I'll take Pirelli's over chlins now, They handle just as good or some cases, tiny bit better but they just wear to damn fast.
I haven't owned a street pirelli yet that has lasted more than 1000 miles.
Even chlins slicks tyres, I just say no to chlins for the same reason of the street tyres, they grip great then when pushed tend to suddenly let go.
Pirelli's slicks, the bomb but was going through 2 sets on a weekend:frown:

The D220's were a pc of sheeit, but I have high hopes on feed back on the Street Smarts to try on the VFR, Hawk, Saber, VF, & the Sprint, to get some spring-summer all weather grip & distance out of them

I have been really pushing my Road Smarts pretty hard up on the Dragon and they hold very well and seem to be wearing very good too. So far I am extremely pleased with their performance.

I couldn't help but notice that 4 out of 5 of the print ads I have seen running for these tires feature a VFR 6th gen.

The Pilot Road 2's were shown being tested on a VFR too. These types of tires are aimed at the VFR in a lot of ways and since the VFR is considered one of the better handling sport bikes they all seem to use one in development and for the magazine testing. The Suzuki SV's see a lot of testing time with these tires too.

Any Dunlop Roadsmart users had much trouble with front tire cupping on the VFR with this model Dunlop? I am liking the reviews for this tire but there are a number of people out there that said the front tire cupped up on them (like the stock Dunlops do).
