My 98 steel horse already has a set of PIAA 1100x running. I want to run high output PIAA headlight bulbs, Super Plasma GTX. Has anyone had any experience with their VFR and that kind of output? I have already replaced the voltage regulator rectifier so as it stands now with the running lights the system seems to be charging. I want the brightest/white light I can get for night riding.

    Thanks!!!!

I actually have the exact same bulbs on my 99 viffer and trust me, they're 100 times better than the stock. They're quite bright at night, infact in darkness, the road signs seem to just jump out of the dark. Also the color make you quite visible since U stand out from the traffic. The only other brighter bulb I'd suggest would be getting a HID kit, but ur looking around $250 and up plus a lot of work.

This bulb was suggested to me by someone else on this board (he rides a 6th gen VFR), I'm glad he did. The following is his comments on the PIAA bulbs:

Well, the good news is that the PIAA bulbs are actually less demanding voltage-wise than the cheaper brands. They create brighter light by use of higher quality and hence more expensive gas inside the bulb, not by demanding more voltage that can over heat and damage wiring and more. Like many other things, you get what you pay for. I installed H4's for my low beams and H7's for my high beams and have had absolutely no problems. When I installed the H4's I tried one first and compared the difference with the stock bulb and the stock bulb looked almost amber by comparison. Check the PIAA website PIAA.com for more info or better yet a local dealer. As I said previously, they are indeed expensive but personally, I feel they are a good investment. I would never go back to stock bulbs nor would I risk damaging my electrical system with cheaper bulbs. I hope this helps ;D

Good god these are expensive lights! The ultra whites aren't too bad but the Plasma GTX is almost double the cost at $58 per bulb on e-bay. I would love to know if they are that much better? Also are they a plug and play installation in the 98VFR or do you need the adapter I see for sale in the classified section?

I don't do a ton of night running but if these are that good then perhaps it could save your butt when in deer country.

I paid $70 for a pair on eBay... just gotta keep ur eyes open for good deals when they come by. I havent actually used the ultra whites, but from what my other rider friends say, the mine looks better... hehe
I haven't actually used an adapter, I believe u have to break off the two bottom tabs.. but if u r a perfectionist then use the adapters...

Thanks For The Info on the Plasmas

I am glad to hear I can use them without any issues. Those Honda bulbs are junk.

I picked up the Plasmas on ebay for $59 + 5$ shipping. Seemed to be the best deal I could find.
Sounds like I will enjoy the night riding. I am planning a trip to ride the NC mountains next month and parts will be ridden at night. They will help keep me from becoming a permanent part of the mountains.

Here is the link for the bulbs if anyone is looking:
