It was pretty nice here in NorCal, low to mid 60's...beautiful day. I saw a fellow 5th Gen rider at the Cordelia Starbucks around 3 PM...don't know if that person frequents our little community.

First real romp on the VFR since Dan Kyle redid the front forks, all in all, the set-up is quite good, but the overall suspension set-up is not perfect (yet). With my full and heavy tankbag on the bike, a laptop in one of the sidecases, I'm running 44 mm rider sag in the front with two 9.0 N-m rate spring. While the ride is a bit "bouncy" on our crappy and bumpy concrete California freeways (they really are bad these days...), out on a nice twisty piece of two-lane, the front seems to come into it's own, and it is firm, well damped, but not in any way harsh. The bike handles really well on a nice, fresh paved, smooth road like Wooden Valley Road. The handling is notably crisper, the bike is more settled at all times. I think all I need to do is match the sag of the rear to the front more closely, and ensure the damping rates are comparable. That, and push the forks up in the triples a few millimeters to get the front end geometry back to a stock ride height. With stiffer springs, the front end pushes a bit in tighter corners. But, all in all, we're close.

    Next weekend, new tires!

Crap day here, cool and windy (25 steady w/gusts to 35). The upside is I should be able to ride to work a couple of days this week. Sounds like you are close to getting the suspension dialed in. New springs are on my to-do list this summer.

Rode back from Reno today. I left at about 10:30 this A.M.; late start for me, but I wanted it to warm up a bit. The Sierras were nice, the rest of the trip was the normal high-speed-too-close Highway 80 dash. The one thing I did not have with me were my normal gloves, just my cold-weather gear. Coulda sworn I packed them... Anyway, my hands were too warm for about 80 miles. But all in all, a good ride; about 280 miles, 4 1/2 hours.

I pulled it out of the garage last Monday. Since then it's either been raining or snowing or just too windy. I thought about riding Friday. It got warm enough to wash the car, but by the time I had to go to work, it had already dropped back into the 20's. I almost got her out tonight too, but I'm glad I didn't. It's been pooring buckets for the last two hours.
