can someone tell me what i would need to do to fabricate custom caliper brackets. i want to upgrade from a 2 caliper piston to a 4 caliper piston, and someone here suggested that i make some custom brackets...but i have no clue how to achieve this. can someone kind of give me an overview on what i would need to do and what i would need to get.
From the sounds of things you need to go to an engineering workshop. They're not the sort of things you can just whip up in your garage unless you have the machinery and nouse. Perhaps your local bike shop could recommend somewhere. You need to consider such things as caliper positon, squareness strength etc.etc. Ive been in the brake maufacturing buisness for over 30 years .. next time you see a Corvette check out the brakes ...Made In Australia!! Good luck
First thing is to connect the calipers to the master cylinder and bleed them. Now you can position them on the rotors and then clamp them in place with the lever, making sure they're square with the rotor. Now you just need to rotate the wheel to position the calipers in relation to the fork legs. There needs to be enough material in the mounts so the mounting holes aren't too close to any other holes or edges. Now you can make a cardboard template to get the hole spacing. The last thing is to measure what the offset or spacing is from the fork mount to the caliper tabs. Make sure you give the machinist the thread size to tap the brackets for the fork leg to bracket bolts. It's actually pretty easy. The left one on my '84 has that TRAC setup so it was a lot more difficult.
