Hey Badbilly and Nungboy, get me up to speed. " The lost Coltrane Harley" Huh? and nung, which book are you reading? The only music I like as much as Trane is the music from my exhaust. And speaking of books. Have you guys read " The Perfect Vehicle" by Melissa Pierson. One of the great motorcycle books. A ton of historical stuff, cultural and the reasons we ride. She rides Moto Guzzi's.. A ton of research went into this thing. I wonder if she digs jazz.......

Tranesong2: The book is "John Coltrane: His Life and Music" by Lewis Porter. It is an excellent read (available on Amazon.com). As far as BadBilly's Harley reference...you'll have to get him to elaborate...I think he is just pulling our legs!
Your book sounds great...I'll try to track it down.

    Just a little..LOL

We may have a subculture going here.

The play is on the "Lost Elvis Harley", of urban legend fame in several versions.

Guy is out to buy a Harley. Finds a beater, buys it for cheap, gets it home and under the seat (or other) finds an engraved plate that says "Built for Elvis Presley by Harley-Davidson." (yada-yada) The bike is now worth 93 bazillion bucks.

I always thought if this was for real a fella could sell tickets for Harleydoods to sniff the seat.

    Cheers

Fave Coltrane side is him and Miles "On Green Dolphin Street."

My name comes from the 1985 Interceptor that I own at present. It also refers to me... I'm sort of an old fart, so the term has double meaning in my regard.

That side is a new one on me. I'm a West Coastie and was more heavily influenced by The West Coast Sound of that particular time period. Playing at that level is somewhat like riding bikes really fast. We like to think we got the chops but it just ain't the case. The upside is that it creates a market for re-issues of music on CD's and sells bunches of TeeShirts to wannabee Ricky Racers.

Some blues on piano and harp. At one time I played trumpet. Came off a flattracker and cut through my upper lip. Blew out my chops. Now, I'm just half fast..;)

DOH! That will ruin your embouchure! Especially trumpet...you might be able to fake it on a flute but not brass. My bro-in-law is a great jazz bone player.
You still have your fingers on the ivories and that harp!
:focus: Back to your username...I like it...my late brother's name was Billy and he WAS Baaaaaaad! He loved bikes. Ride on!

Damn guys, emboucher, is that how you spell it? And ya, I know what it means too. Sure couldn't SPELL it! Did I land on the intellihip jazz/moto forum? I always knew motorcycle riders were intelligent. Well, maybe not the folks that ride those Davidson Co. parade floats. Maybe we should form a band. We could practice in Badbilly's GARAGE! I was a music ed. guy in college. I also play piano, brass and was a voice major. How did we get to this conversation? Maybe we should petition for a moto-musical forum starter. If it isn't about bikes or music I don't pay much attention. I also still listen to Jimi and have a bunch of better, contemporary rock bands I like. As long as some of us can't ride now I'll talk music and bikes until spring! Ever ride with canal phones and an MP3 player. It's a bit weird really. It must be illegal in a few states. It makes it a bit tough to hear e-vehicles. Kind of pleasant though. If you wear earplugs when you ride you might as well have tunes. Bob

Badbilly, sorry, really, if you ride a Davidson I'll keep you in my prayers! Just foolin'man. If you like Trane you gotta be sharp! And by the way, are you shittin' about the name change thing, or is this another Coltrane Harley con? I go to a flat track close to home. I know how important Davidson's are in the history and actually, the current state of the sport. Flat trackin' ruined your lip? Ya mighta been the next Lee Morgan!

I rode a KR for one season. It was a BSA that bit me. They sewed the lip but it was off just enough to total my tone. Broke my jaw, one thumb and scapula. Not a good day.

It was a practice lap. I was up in the marbles above the groove. The bottom end let loose and the engine froze. Normally the chain breaks. Not this time. Those crashwalls are real solid.

The harps I can stick in my pocket. The upright Steinway might prove to be a greater problem moving it into the garage. The major obstacle would be a mano a mano with my wife. Call me "Chickenshit" if you want to but I ain't goin there!

The upside is to find a Harleydood. They all have trucks and moving one of those suckers is not much less trouble than moving a piano.

    Ahem..

    I love my Harley-Davidson
I love it like my life
I even love it better than I even love my wife.
    I love to lubricate it
And grease it up real good
I'd love to love it up some more
And would do it if I could.

    (There are other versions)

    Cheers.

    Hotbrakes- For many reasons...
I was an Airport Firefighter in the Marine Corps and hotbrakes on aircraft was a common emergency.

I caught the brakes on fire in a fire engine one time.

I sometimes go too fast when I shouldn't be so my brakes are usually hot.

I'm not afraid to check up in a turn and I tell people that, so stay back.

I seem to out brake other riders too, I have been hit from behind by another rider twice in 6 months...and not from checking up, STOP sign, and left turn with hand signal and turn signal.

THANKS Hotbrakes for getting us BACK ON TOPIC!
Seems that Badbilly, Transesong2 and I cannot stop talking about music! And TraneSong2, ah oui, zat is zee correct spelling of zat silly French word! (It is so easy whe you know zee language!) And as far as your question about listening to MP3 players, check out the other thread (Do you listen to music when you ride?) on the Forum...very contentious THAT thread. Lots of arguments! Perhaps we should start a music thread...

Maybe we could combine the two threads and ask the Harleydoods that listen to music when riding, what they listen to. My first guesses would be Conway Twitty or a loop of "Ride of the Valkyries" by Wagner.
