I'm pretty excited because today I got my modded frame and other parts back from the powdercoat shop!

Have a look and watch this space for a future build-up thread, from start to finish!

    VF750F build-up

    Seb,

Are you going to go the whole Gimp route and drop a VF1000R engine in? According to the original project, it was a bolt in. They seem to be going cheap on Ebay now. The last whole engine went for $70 plus $200 shipping.

    Well???????

    Larry

I was thinking of that, problem is, afterdoing some homework, only a certain year of the OZ-spec motor will slide right in... the version that had head oiling problems. The US-spec VF1kR motor had the larger heads and will not fit in the 750 frame. A VF1000F motor will fit, but then there's the oil problem again...

This bike has only 2,997 miles on it, and the cams & rockers are like new, so that's what I'm using(even though I have plans for a Stage 2 cam set). The stock cams will go on a shelf for, euh, something...

So what all did you do/have done to the frame? Looks good black, I may have to try it on my 1000....

This should be on the the bike TV shows like Superbikes.

Not the crap they normally do.

Thank you Seb! Looking forward to the next installment.

Yup. Frame, swingarm, & upper triple are all satin black. Wheels are Mirror White. The fork lowers will be painted satin black(couldn't get them prepped in time for PC).

Technically, I didn't mod the frame much. What I did do was cut the tweaked rear section off and weld on the good section from my 700. The only "real mod" was cutting off the square mounts for the rear rails(the ones that the stock rear signals attach to).

Also had to do some tapping on the large lower gusset, where the swingarm bolt goes on the left side, as it was slightly deformed from having water freeze inside it.

Sounds a little scary, no? It was, but to look at it now, -->

Motorcyclist magazine is coming out with a new spinoff mag called "Motorcycle Classics", which will focus on the bikes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and will be on newsstands in April. Can't wait to subscribe!

The frame is so pretty I would be scared to mount the engine and swingarm for fear of dinging it! Keep us posted.
