You always fail to see the silver lining KC.

Michael Savage resides in SF and attacks the puke liberals on his radio show daily!

    Moto living

If I'm picking where I would live based solely on riding, it would be hard to ignore Arkansas. But, throw in living and working, and I still love Texas. AR is only an hour or 2 away, but we have great working conditions, no state tax, reasonable cost of living, good roads. Anywhere where there's mountains is always great. Sorry to California, but your politics and drivers both scare the #$%^& out of me, not even to address the cost of living. And the east coast cost of lving is no wierd, don't even get me started.

And with an anuual growth rate over 10%, a lot of other people must agree with me.

Flame away all you want, we're used to it.

I lived in the bay area for a while, and while there were a lot of positives, I like it down this way much better. When you get away from the cities, CA becomes much like anywhere else. A lot of people in the rest of the country think that all CA is like Baywatch or <insert some crazy SF show here> but in reality it's mostly like everywhere else. My town is about 30000 people and I can walk downtown and feel safe. It's only crowded when school gets out. People don't care what color you are or if you are a dem or republican. We only have a few bums, and they pretty much stakeout the same corners. I tried LA and SF and there were a little too much for me. Where I am, it is the same to distance to either so you pretty much can't get farther from both at the same time and still live on the CA coast. I can still make it to the awesome roads up north when weather is decent, I can ride on the great roads here all year, and I can head down south if I feel the need to commune with celebs. (by the way I have never accidentally run into a celeb in CA)

Nothern California??!! Year-round??!! I just got 8 more inches of snow yesterday and there is snow in the forcast for the next 5 days-following 2 solid weeks of daily snow. PISH. OK so I am at 4200 feet in the mountains. If you go a couple of hours west of me, you still get the twisties, but without all the snow.

    OK, my turn:attention:

I grew up in SoCal & spent a many Summers up in orinda, CA., as well as I been on a bike traveling in 49 of the 50 states (did'nt get to Main because of a Nor'easter that I didn't want to deal with).

I'd have to semi narrow it down to the western states because of the awesome condition roads & elevation changes.

But I'd have to have access to 1 or more tracks & the bitchin roads within 5 minutes or less from my house.

So I'd have to pick were I'm at now in Utah with more state/nat'l parks than any other, lots of very well maintained roads that are a awesome view @ every turn & all year round riding weather is just a short hop away or a die hard like me ride all year round in the good & foul weather.

I rode all 52 weeks last year & looks like I'll only be 2 less than that this year because of record snow (Global warming Pfffft  )

SoCal would be my 2nd choice but you can't beat the roads up here that are as good as Deal Gap or better, as well as other roads in WA, OR, CA, that have roads not that far away that's as good as or better than Deals gap as well !

besides, it's dirt bike, skiing/snowboarding, snowmobile, dunes, exploring, heaven up here as well( with a big plus of lack of liberal commies as in the most republican state in the country)

I had the chance to go anywhere. I chose to go back home to East TN. The roads here are terriffic!! No state income tax. And we have a good job market here. I'm just about 2 hrs from the Dragon, about 1.5 hrs from Maggy Valley, 2 Hrs to the "Breaks Interstate Park" in VA. And, the ride to all of these places is a great ride. I live in Jonesborough, the oldest town in TN. A quaint little town which has car shows, music downtown, motorcycle shows, and is home to the "International Story Telling Festival".

Being in Northern California I am partial to this area. It is a year round climate other than recently where it has rained virtually every day. Riding from here to the coast via Lake Berryessa and Trinity Grade ending up in Pt Reyes is one of my favorite rides. Filling up at the bakery and heading home yields 6 hours of some of the best roads you can find.

You know, as I read all the replies, it seems that KA is the place that the majority prefer. I can honestly say I don't know how anyone could actually live there.

I live in NJ, one of (definitely in the top 5) most politically corrupt & idiotic states. I can say without hesitation that I can't for the life of me understand how ANYONE would actually want to live in NJ. Keeping that in mind, KA is politically much WORSE. Right now on Fox News there are protests in Berkley to have military recruiters removed from the entire city. BULL SH$T! How dare those f$cking scumbags. If this is what KA represents, screw that. Knowing that, there is no way I could subject myself to that.

However, if YOU can subject yourself to that, that's your business & who am I to question that. So, I would like to extend my apology to the individual who I said his opinion counts less than Diane Feinstein's at a NRA Convention.

    KC-10 FE out...

I absolutely love the roads and scenery in Northern California but the taxes in California are ridiculous.

I have been all over the country and believe Western Washington is the best place possible for me to live. Spectacular scenery, moderate weather, lots of twisty roads, good wages, reasonable taxes, and large population of interesting people.

I have to agree with Shoe, that Washington is a great place to live and ride. Although my preference is for the dry side- Eastern Washington is much less populated.

KC....you are so right about Bezerkley and their unpatriotic stance on the military recruiters.

As a former Marine it makes me vomit.

Personally I hate the damn city and never go there. Thank God it's fairly far across the bay from me.

I was born on the east side of the bay and now live on the west side, on the peninsula where, in my opinion,
it is 10 times better than the east side.

If any of you ride in this area contact me and we'll get together at Alice's restaurant above Woodside, in the mountains.

On sunny weekends several hundred bikes gather there and/or pass through.

This isn't THE Alice's restaurant from Arlo Guthries song, but still nice.

A restaurant that names their hamburgers after brands of motorcycles can't be all that bad.

Here's their website. Click on the "Daytime Menu" and look at the hamburgers.

    OMG...I'm getting hungry. Be right back . . . . .

I grew up in LA and lived for at least a few years in each of Oregon, Michigan and New Hampshire. If I had to choose one of those to spend the rest of my life in it would with out a doubt be Oregon. Absolutely beautiful country even if the Willamette valley is wet 5 months out of the years. Can think of any number of roads that would be thrill to ride around Eugene.

I have had toured most of the US and I honestly got to say if you want fantastic year round riding, I would have to pick California. While some states have some of the bests roads for two wheel paradise, you can't beat the huge amount of roads to ride on. What I have enjoy most about California is it has the most licensed riders and motorcycle clubs and tracks than any other state. The weather is great and with 950 miles of coastline and 2 mountain ranges that run the entire length of the state, you will find a gem of a road when other parts of the state can have bad weather. For more info check out http://www.pashnit.com/

North Carolina runs a close second. N.C. has some of the best roads that I have been on. What I didn't care for is the weather. I spent a total of 4 weeks riding there and the humidity/thunderstorms were happening to often for me. If I didn't get in before 3pm, it would pour rain hard.

There are about six more states I need to ride to get all 50... Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, South Carolina, and Alaska. Unless something else comes up, I plan to ride 3 of those states this coming summer.

I have family and friends here in Maryland. There are lots of other things to do as well. I'm happy here.... I could be happy in other places too.

No offense to the Hawkeyes, but Iowa is not the place I'd want to live to ride.

Maryland sure is convenient to A LOT of great riding. Although I'm only in PA, I'd love to be a tad further south for easier access.

If given the choice, I'd probably head somewhere towards Deals Gap/Tennessee. Things sure seem simple there and the riding? I think we all know about that.
