Ah Ha. Nice, did yours come with where to mount reservoir and how? I ended up making a special mount for mine. Then you have the screw adjuster to mess with as well. Still way sweet, I'm jealous Ohlins stopped making em for the 4th gens. Don't have to much fun this weekend, make sure you show photos step by step too.

You Suck! J/K - I'll be lucky to get new springs this year. Hope the install goes well and it works as good as it looks.

Hey P C ;I am interested in your feedback when you changeout your old shock for the Ohlins, because I did the same mod with the same Ohlins shock that you just bought. I dont know if Ohlins color codes their springs or not, because I have a yellow non progressive spring just like you. I really havent worked on any other part of the suspension,so I wont be to critical of the Ohlins. Anyway the place I bought it from said they used the proper spring for my weight- 175 lbs rider - my bike seems to ride very stiff with the Ohlins. In addition I have very little sack in the spring,so combined with stiff
the rear of the bike sits much higher than before. I have no doubt I will get the front and rear suspension worked out, however dont look for magic the first time out. eddie

    Eddie,
if you have very little static sag, then the basic spring rate is too stiff, especially if you have backed the spring all the way off. Sounds like you measured the static sag, do you remember what it was?

Eddie, do you know the part no. of the spring that is on your shock? The part no. on mine is 1092-69-170. The "170" refers to a spring rate of 170 newton/meters for a 200 lb rider with no gear. Acc. to Dan Kyle, you should have a 1092-59-150 spring on your bike. Can you check and let's discuss?

    thanks,
    PC

Nice, I wish I had the compression adjuster on mine, I have the 46DRS on my '05(has the hydraulic preload and rebound). I got spoiled w/ the 46PRXLS on the F4i, you can adjust EVERYTHING on that thing...

Been thinking about selling the DRS and upgrading.

Are you modding the forks or leaving them stock? How much do you weigh? Do you ride double much?

    Sorry for all the questions . . . .

Know what you mean, when I first opened the box I thought maybe I should hang it on the living room wall instead of fitting it to the bike.

I was telling an engineering friend of mine and he said he knew what I meant. He had just sat and stared at his on the table for an hour when he first unpacked it.

And almost as a bonus, they work as good as they look:biggrin:

    Hi Stewart,
The forks should be getting revalved and resprung next weekend (Feb. 9) at Kyle Racing, at least I hope so (I'm in the app't. book).

See above; 200 lbs approx. Don't ride double much, but will be touring with hard Givi cases (and laden with camera gear from time to time as well).

Very Nice PC! I'm really happy for you man  I know you will get the most out of it. Adjusting suspension isn't much of a black art, it's the valving that's the black art!

Reg - I know for the Gen 6, the shock comes with a mount that attaches to the passenger footpegs, not real sure about 5th Gen though. You can check it out at the Ohlins site, they have PDF files of the installation instructions for every bike. The instructions are amazingly good and well detailed.

Too bad you can't get the shock with the adjustable ride height for the 5th Gen, I would be interested to play around with that to see how it really affects things. Damn nice piece of Uber functional bling though.....

Thanks, NCB! I agree with you that adjusting suspension isn't so much a black art at the valving is, if only Honda knew that with respect to HMAS.

Ride height adjustability isn't really an issue for me as long as the shock length is the same as the stock one. The Penske on the F4i has an adjustable length, and I've raised the rear ride height 5 mm to very slightly quicken the steering on the bike. There's a tradeoff with raising it too much, though. As you reduce trail by raising the rear, the bike will turn in more quickly, but also can become less stable. I really like very stable handling bikes, so I've no desire to raise the rear of the VFR.

It could potentially help when fully loaded. I would like to experiment with it from that point. I do heartily agree, that on the street, stable is better. When you start steepening things up too much then you get into having to use a steering damper (= Mo' Money!) I believe a commonly blurted out word word is "balance". I'm not even gonna try to fool ya - I'm no ricky racer! I just figured if your gonna spend that much cash you may as well get everything you can, which you did. For $49.00 more it would be worth it just to have it. Not only that, it's more stuff to play with!

It's too bad that shock is gonna get stuffed where you won't really see it, it deserves to be seen! It's kinda like s$x with the lights off, you know it looks good and you know it feels good, you just wished you could see it, LOL!
