Yeah, why do i never see a decent bike like a VFR in a movie?
Why has it always have to be a Harley?
Are we the only one's who know the best looking bike is a VFR.

Tell me about a VFR in a movie and i like to see it.

    See ya.

tonight i made my first ride of 2008; temperature was only 7 degrees celcius and it was allready getting dark, but boy riding was such a boost for my wellbeing...

There are a few black VFR's in the movie "War" that just came out on DVD a couple of weeks ago. There's a pretty cool chase scene. It's dark, but you can tell which ones are the viffers.

There are some sportbike movies, like (cough cough) biker boys, and some others (don't forget COOL AS ICE! with Vanilla Ice in the early 90's), but they are just SO UNREALISTIC it makes me want to cry. They have gixxer's jumping on top of trains, going 300mph thru downtown LA, and having sword type bike fights with the bike being the sword....need I go on?

Torque is a sport bike movie. The chase on top of the train is between an Aprilia and a Triumph Daytona. War isn't really a movie about sport bikes, but it does have some in it (although I didn't know some of them were VFR's; I'll have to take a closer look next time.) One of the cool things about War is it features a Confederate Hellcat as the bike that outruns the sport bikes.

I think it's Matrix Reloaded that's got an awesome chase scene with a Ducati 999. The scene lasts several minutes and has the Ducati racing against the flow of traffic on a busy highway. I thought it was way cool.

Also, I know Arnold was riding a Fat Boy in Terminator 2, but you have to admit the chase scene in the canal is great. The part where he makes that incredible jump had a crane holding/moving the motorcycle in the air until it lands. The crane was subsequently edited out of the scene with computer graphics. Had that been an actual attemp, that hog's frame would have cracked big time (not to mention who knows what else would have actually happened.) Regardless, it was entertaining.

One of the cool things about Biker Boyz is the scene where a guy's doing a stoppie with two passengers on the bike. Wow.

There is a yellow 5th Gen featured in Date Movie that a buddy showed me. I have no idea what part of the movie it is in since it is the only scene that I have seen.

Mostly you are right. Product endorsement. That is why you see so many Jags, Aston Martins etc in Bond movies. Ford sponsors them. With Harley's I think there might also be a bit of the Bad Boy image attached. Hell we sure wouldn't want realism.

Having said that I just watched "The Worlds Fastest Indian" again. I was brought up in New Zealand and a guy very much like Bert Munro lived next door to me when I was a kid. Very realistic movie.

:sorry: One fine day I will buy an Harley.... But that same day I will quit riding bikes or have enough money to own a real bike along with it.

This also would get my going http://www.shooshtime.com/videos/14594_Mommy-Loves-Bikes.html

** MODERATOR INSERT ** link above goes to porn site that tries to open pop-ups. Unsure if video loads as I navigated away after the 3rd pop-up.

Sorry about the link.... :sorry: Maybe not right thing to insert....

Real bike film? "On Any Sunday."

Unreal bike film? Knightriders. One of those films that "they just don't make em like that anymore." Thank God.. Lots of Hondas and Honda-San is probably rolling over in his grave.

HD pays for exposure in films. The producers love it. It defrays costs. HD at the top of the heap is a very sophisticated organization. The CEO before last was a PhD Engineer with degrees from MIT. HD's historian has a PhD in History.

Anytime a logo, a label or an identifiable product is in a film, the chances that it's random is slim. Somebody is popping some big bucks for the exposure.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the "Mad Max" movies. There have been some other ones lately but they didn't really have mainstream appeal, except for maybe "Motorcycle Diaries", they were more like documentaries, but I think those are better anyway. I like it when you gotta know to understand.

    Press Release
Disney and Harley-Davidson Announce Joint Venture.

CEO’s Michael Eisner of Disney and Jim Zeimer of Harley-Davidson announced today in Hollywood that the two firms will join forces in a joint venture for a new theme park to be constructed as Eisner put it, “Somewhere in the west that will exemplify the best of what America stands for.”

Tentative names for the new park are being studied but Chairman Zeimer hinted that it would most likely be called Sturgisland in honor of the small Dakota community,a mecca for fans of the popular motorcycle. Eisner stated that weather conditions in the Dakotas prompted the two giants to get together and provide as he put it, “A real downhome American experience open 365 days a year.”.Zeimer added that,” Now everyone can go to Sturgis anytime they want to.”

Details were not specific but both Eisner and Zeimer, indicated that the full force of Disney and Harley-Davidson would be behind the effort, including a number of Harley-Davidson repair shops positioned on major highways to provide service for riders and their machines to, as Zeimer put it “ Take care of our loyal customers in their time of need.”

Eisner commented that with the advantageous position that the GATT agreement provides, all merchandise sold in the retail and souvenir shops would be manufactured in either Beijing or Tiajuana, BC displaying a new composite logo featuring Mickey Mouse riding a Harley-Davidson wearing a World War Two style helmet favored by many enthusiasts.

A select few park themes were provided in the press release package, Both Eisner and Zeimer would not comment further, but stated “That what we want to do here is to conjoin Disney, Harley-Davidson and the American People in a safe and controlled environment and to break down the myths that motorcyclists are somehow different than regular people.”

According to the press release, the park would be thematic and areas of entertainment would follow the time tested Disney method of naming the various areas, rides and streets in honor of the Harley-Davidson product line. ”In the works,”according to the release will be Knuckleheadland, Panhead USA, EVO Alley, Flathead Lane and others to be named at a later date. Futuristic rides and expositions will include “The Magic Mountain Hillclimb and the Hall Of The Presidents in honor of the giant Carvings located in the Black Hills.” A bust of George W Bush will be added wearing the popular military style helmet.

This is exactlly why I will embrace the big meteor or all out nuclear attack when/ if it happens. Anybody remember the comedian Bill Hicks??? When I am doing an MSF class it takes every fiber of my being not to explode on the newbies who are Harley worshippers. They suck the lifeforce out of me and all who love motorcycling.

As Wayne Cramer once said: "When cool is for sale...its no longer cool".

I am so sickened...I now need to listen to the Dead Kennedy's for about four hours to cleanse my soul.

    Thanks Norcal for doing it!

    Yes! Mad Max:biggrin:

    Kawasaki Z1000's

    A few Z9's

Some Honda 650's, ahhhh the beauty.

All with good car/ bike chases. Nothing like having the bad guys be on the baddest bikes at the time! All without crap/ over the top special effects too.

You make Bubba miss the good ol days harrasing the Bronze.

Personally, I kinda like anything with two wheels. That doesn't mean I want to ride it or own it, but it IS a motorcycle.

And just think how much money is saved in movie production with a Harley. You don't need to use fast film.

Damn Norcal, give me a minute. Ahh, Mad Max? The best MC movie ever!
There's also a couple of Buels in "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever " and a BMW rockster in "Paycheck".

The thing that pisses me off the most is not the lack of sportbikes in movies, it's the incorrect sound clips they use instead of the real sound. Both the movies I just mentioned made the bikes sound like inline 4's.

That! is one kick ass quote...

That drives me crazy, too. When I was young and rode mostly 2 strokes, I used to notice that they never got two-stroke sound effects right, also.

A Harleyland theme park!?!?!?!?!? No way. I don't think that Disney would consider being involved in that sort of thing if they had ever been to the Stugis rally, or Daytona Bike week, or any other "biker" event for that matter. The wet t-shirt contests filled with tattooed 60-year-olds, cottage-cheese wrestling, public drunkeness, drug abuse and group sex really doesn't sound much like Disney.

A few have hit on the subject and were correct. It's all about the $$$. Pretty much 99.99% of the products you see in a movie are put there for a reason.

Take the movie TRANSFORMERS for example. GM paid LARGE to make sure all the Autobots were GM. The only reason Optimus Prime wasn't is because GM doesn't make a truck big enough. If you watch the special features on the limited edition, Michael Bay even says he never wanted the Pontiac Solstice because it was too small but used it anyway since that was what GM insisted he use.

HD has the dough to put their products in movies so they do so because it's fantastic advertising. It works for Chevy too. Go to your local Chevy dealer and ask about ordering a new Camaro. The first 1.5 years are already spoken for. That's right, if you want one, you're already too late, unless someone chooses not to take delivery. I know, I want one & can't have it.

I suspect Honda has the dough as well but probably doesn't care. Honda will always have faithful customers just like HD does. Isn't it funny, when we (the members of this forum) hear about a guy who will "only buy Honda's", we don't think anything of it? When we hear of a guy who will "only by Harley's", then it's  ? The main difference is Honda is constantly developing new products & pushing the envelope. HD? The just prey upon the stupidity of the Orange & Black slathered cult. They take for granted how stupid the average "biker" is. If I were making as much $$$ for doing as little as they were, I wouldn't change a thing either.

    KC-10 FE out...
