O2 Interceptor w 9,480 miles completly stock. I had the idle set too high and I think I may have screwed up or disconected the remote Idle adjustment cable. The bike starts and imediatly stalls because Idle is too low, However when rotating the adjustment knob the whole cable - rubber housing and all rotates - is this supposed to happen? I think that too much twisting has been done to this cable and it may be disconected from throttle body as now any ajustment is making no difference.....

Any input is greatly appreciated - Quinn

Try using a screw driver on the end of the cable and see if you can adjust it that way. If not, I think you'll have to work your way down to the throttle bodies and see what's going on. I am assuming everything was fine until you started messing with the idle adjustment.

Q- does the bike *just* idle now? (ie... the cable broke) or you just can't adjust the idle?

The bike does not idle at all. This is the wierd part. I took the bike out and rode it. Idled high for a while but that is to be expected - cold out. Then after letting it set for a while and heat up - then it sat and idled around 3,500 RPM. Adjusted the idle down to 1200 - cable seemed to work. After letting it cool down just a bit I started it back up and now I am at sqaure one - will not idle it just dies again like before. I have never seen anything like this. I am going to run it around the block again and see what it does. ???

Any suggestions on how to tear into this thing to the point where remote adjuster meets throttle body or should I have a dealer do it?

Quinn, if it was me, I'd just start peeling things off to get at what I needed to see. If that is intimidating you, maybe a buddy near you on the forum would stop by and help. Just go slow and keep track of what goes where, take pictures with your digital camera if you think you won't remember where things go.

Don't let that bike outsmart you!

CLick on the "LINK" action provided. If you get stuck someplace just ask. Then folks can show you how smart they are. Good luck. (nice link action!)

You could try just pulling off the right faring and see if its pinched any place. Mine didn't want to work when I first got the bike and I used a screw driver instead of the knob to adjust the idle. If that doesn't work I did a "How To" on a thermostat replacement. Follow the steps until you get to the throttle bodies, of course you don't have to remove the fuel lines if you are not taking the tank all the way off. The idle adjustment cable comes up from underneath the throttle bodies. Good Luck!
