    Hello there,

I have a 05 vfr v tec. It started by the exaust fumes smelling fun, usual, or rich. Then there was a constant miss when idling followed by a loss of power and a hard start. I remove the filter and clean it because it was dirty and replace but same problem. Can anybody help me?

Are you getting an FI light? You can pull stored trouble codes by jumpering the test connector and checking the number of blinks of the FI light. If you don't already have the Service Manual you can download it from various places on the web.

Strange, I posted this around 4pm mountain time and the time stamp on the post says 8:06 AM. Now if I could get this to work for sports bets.

Was the air filter so clogged that the PCM was caused to run too rich? nahhh

These bikes have O2's right? Bad O2??

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes or however long this system takes to reset, and then try it...

Just tossing stuff out, I don't have one of these yet so I'm not fully inculcated on them yet.

remove and inspect your sparkplugs, then try again..........

one or more may not be firing. how many miles on them??

Bad plugs could be the CAUSE (excess miles and covered with deposits, bad gap) or the SYMPTOM of failed FI sensor causing over-rich condition and plug fouling.

My bike had similar symptoms, it was the fuel regulator, & fouled plugs from the regulator problem. My bike runs great now. Good luck with your problem.

Two blinks is a bad MAP sensor OR a vacuum line problem. When you replaced the MAP sensor did you check the lines going to each of the throttle bodies? I've seen a leaking vacuum line show up as a faulty sensor. You can pull the lines off where they connect into the throttle bodies, plug the ends, and try to suck air through the end that the MAP sensor hooks to. If you get any air you've got a leak. If the lines are good trace the wires from the MAP sensor plug back to where they hook into the harness. Make sure that they are not kinked or grounding out.

It definately sounds like MAP sensor issues. If you have checked the map sensor with a multi meter and it checks out you need to start looking for an air leak. What this sensor does is monitor the difference between the intake manifold pressure and the outside atmosphere and then it sends the readings to the ECM for the purpose of monitoring engine load. Kinda like old school spark advance when distributors used points and vacuum advance. The first thing you need to do is verify that MAP sensor is bad and then are 4 hoses that come off of the throttle body, one from each intake and one outlet to the bottom of the MAP Sensor.Check to make sure that all of these hoses are connected and not cracked or compromised. The tee is plastic, so who knows, maybe the tee broke. It is a PITA because you have to remove the tank and yank the airbox off to get to these hoses and the 5 way tee. I'd start there if you have already verified that the MAP sensor is bad. Verify the sensor operation FIRST, it is a lot easier to ge to than the hoses under the airbox. Do the easy stuff first 1. Make sure connector is correctly plugged into the bottom of the MAP sensor and that the wires aren't messed up. 2. Use a mulit meter to verify that the MAP sensor is functioning. 3. If 1 & 2 check out your gonna have to go under the airbox to check the hoses.

Yes I can hear the pump hunning. Presently the bike seems like it is working on 2 or 3 cylinders with the exaust smoke rich smelling and blach with very high rev, I also noice when the rev is about 4000rpm or more and keep the throttle at one position the needle goesup and down to the 4000 mark. I replace the plug with ngk cr9eh-9 specify by the manual. How can i check for fat healthy spark?
