Im a new member. I bought my first VFR yesterday, a new 06. I think i got a pretty good deal on it at $6599 out the door. I have been riding for over 20 years but it has been on Harleys and also on Buells. I was looking for a bike that i could actually ride some long distances and could also attach bags. I looked at the FJRs but liked the VFRs more and it was cheaper to insure. I obviously have some ?s and will more than likely have many more.

    - what problems if any do i need to watch for (appears to be a very reliable) -- advice on proper break in?
    - Im looking for bags. Whats the better brand? Honda or Givi? Where to buy?
    - can i have a passenger with bags on?
    - What easy mods can i make (pipe, airbox, PC)
    - Can these be worked on myself (oil and other fluids)
    - is there a service required after like 500 or 1000 miles

Welcome dude - looks like you got a smokin deal. Coming from Harleys and Buells youll find the VFR a great ride and very reliable. On all your questions, first step is pick your topic and do a search. All you questions have been debated in much detail on these pages. Also youll find this is a great group of people here to amuse and abuse you and maybe even answer a few questions.

    Welcome again,
    MD

Wow! That is more than smoking, I think that deal is on fire. I paid 6200 for a 2005 with 1000 miles and I thought I got a great deal. Your bike is new? Awesome deal.

I don't think there are any problem that you need to look towards othere than the wiring harness recall, which I'm not sure affected the 2006s. But if it did the dealer should not have sold you the bike unless it was fixed.

Break in is pretty clearly stated in the manual. I would follow it as close as you can, but I don't think it has to be a religion. I wouldn't go blasting down the highway running to redline for each shift though. Take some time before you do that.

As for bags, the passenger can get on there with the bags. If you go with a top case, the passenger may feel more comfortable. But the saddlebags work fine with the passenger. Honda bags are expensive. Givi's are more reasonable. I think the quality is pretty much the same from what I've heard.

All the mods you listed can be done pretty easily. A slip on exhaust is that slip on, the PowerCommander PCIII is an easy install, get the O2 Elmin with it though, that is slightly more challenging to install, but still easy.

there are free mods listed in this forum for the airbox, flapper valve. You can easily go with a K&N filter. I don't know of a full Airbox replacement though.

You can do most of the above mods yourself. As for the first service, I know the manual states it, I don't have it with me now, but I think an oil change is called for around 5000 miles or so, but I suggest you check the manual for that.

    Welcome to the club!

Thanks for the welcome guys. Look forward to hopefully many miles of riding on this bike. I sold my Buell this fall against my better judgement as it was so much fun to ride but it was just too uncomfortable to ride. I am sure i will have lots of questions and reading to do. Yes the bike i purchased is brand spanking new (0 miles). The dealership had a black and a white. I purchased the black and they should still have the white which i assume they are selling for the same price. Dealership is Westside Honda in Evansville Indiana. Its a 4 1/2 hour drive for me to go pick it up, but I think its worth it for the price I paid for it.

Holy mother of "G" that deal almost makes me regret buying mine at the $ I did.

    - what problems if any do i need to watch for (appears to be a very reliable) That is a very deep question...
-advice on proper break in? Your manual states to not give her off the line and to avoid any super heavy acceleration's.
    - Im looking for bags. Whats the better brand? Honda or Givi? Where to buy? I have the Honda Factory bags. Bought them where I could get them the cheapest. They ROCK!
    - can i have a passenger with bags on? Yep.
    - What easy mods can i make (pipe, airbox, PC) There are lots and lots of things you can do.
    - Can these be worked on myself (oil and other fluids) Yep
    - is there a service required after like 500 or 1000 miles. It's all in your manual.

For the most part, spend some time looking around the site including the wiki and you will learn and continue to do so. You will see plenty of mods that you can do as well as here about issue that some are having.
