I'm thinking of importing a 5th gen VFR into Canada from the USA. (better selection down south). Having done it with a car, I know one of the issues as far as getting registration up here is the instrument cluster. Does anyone know if the speedo can be easily converted to kph? Any other glitches I might encounter?
Thanks, and I'm hoping to find a clean 99-02 early this spring.

Good luck finding one. Which state(s) are you thinking of searching? Maybe some members can help you find one on their local craigslist page...

No need to convert the speedo, it has both numbers already on it. Besides, Canadian Tire (the only place that can do the federal inspection) will put little stickers on the speedo for you. If you are old enough to remember when we switched, that is what people did back then as well.

Oh yeah, old enough to remember the stickers! To really date myself, my last bike was a CB750 Custom. Time to upgrade! Thanks for the help; the web site is a good one and confirms most of what I had already. As for where the bike comes from, it doesn't really matter to me. I'm looking to turn it into a good road trip anyways, so where ever the best deal comes from will be good fine with me. Gives me a great excuse to see some more of the continent. I'll keep an eye on this site for potential bikes as we get a bit closer to spring. Hoping for a red or black 5th gen (possible 4th) in "ready to ride across the country" condition. Bags and/or bolt on mods nice but not neccessary.

We see several VFRs come up for sale here on the west coast. Mostly red. The 5g never came in black for the 5g but the 6g did. I think there is currently one for sale in my local area that's a 4th g. lemme go check real quick... well, I'll be damned, I go and look and lo and behold, there is a black 5g here locally... http://slo.craigslist.org/mcy/510748033.html he must have painted it himself or brought it from somewhere else...
Anyway, if you like, I could drop by and check the bike out for you if he even still has it... here's a 4g down by LA http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/mcy/541075248.html
there are more I just searched a few cities...

Ya know what that means? In my own experience, it seems like about 90% of the time aftermarket paint (for non-customs) means the bike has been bounced down the road a tad. Give her a close look.

Good point derstuka and I agree. I'll be looking for original paint, fiberglass etc. I thought it came in black but I guess the American edition didn't. As good as the black looks I think I gotta go with red as the first choice though...
