VFR Top Speed is ????

I got to maybe a tiny bit over 130mph accidentally the last time it was warm. I hate using any version of the word "accident" in that sentence. All I know is that I got to a really really fast speed then slowly unwound the throttle and happened to glance quickly at the speedo, saw it decelerating under 130.

 

Well, I remember on my first 87 VFR 750, I saw the speedo hit 125 mph and was still accelerating, didnt look down to see what it was when I decided to roll off the throttle, it got there pretty quick though too. Im more into throttling up at the apex of a twisty now though.

 

125mph - 1998 VFR

 

145 mph, felt like it had more and was extremely stable.

 

I have less than 1,000 miles on my '06 so no speed runs just yet, however, I did get pulled over in my truck going 90 on that stretch of I-5 when I was bringin' her home from the dealer in Portland - Luckily the guy was cool enough to write me up for 75 in a 65 so the ticket only cost $190.00 including traffic school....

 

It pulls to 230kph easily and quickly so with speedo error that should be just over 120mph. i think thats plenty fast enough for street, any faster and that body bag might be waiting at the next cross road

 

01 VFR. Utah desert. Couldn't fully tuck due to tank bag & camcorder on it. 100 degree heat. I didn't have the "yellow box" installed at the time so it's not right. I figure 140ish. Stock gearing. Couldn't get 6th to wind all the way out.

 

I'd agree, especially a 700. Guy I knew had/has an 86vfr750 that he used to road race way back then. Had the HRC kit and I think he put a VF1000 front end on it. Got clocked at Daytona running 160 or 165. Dunno the gearing, etc. He liked to tell us the story of Rainy and Schwantz railing up the inside of him at Road Atlanta... he left about 6" of room and they came sailing through. He was always mad the factory guys had all the good stuff...

 

140 indicated on my 1999 5th gen. and was still climbing fast. The 90 degree S curve was coming up too fast and the pucker facter kicked in.

130 indicated on my 6th gen. but it will do more, obviously. On bikes, straight line speed doesn't do it for me. Twisties are what sport bikes are for.

Before I sold my 2003 ZO6 with fairly minor mods, it saw 177 on the GPS. Got there very quick in 5th gear. Don't recommend any of the above at all anymore. Kind of a been there done that kind of thing.

Now the twisties, that's an addiction!!

147mph with more to give. Backed off, tires are are 4 yrs. old.
Silver '05' manufactured in Dec. 04. Buffeting was an issue also as I was driving into the wind on Greenspot road past the Seven Oaks Dam in Highland Calif.

 

159mph! As indicated by my GPS! Was doing top gear roll-ons. My '99 VFR vs. a friend of mine on his VTR 1000. He couldn't believe I was pulling away from him as easily as I was. The right combination of bolt-on goodies and a good tuner with a dyno and just shy of 110hp at the rear wheel. I knew I would smoke him as I own two VTR 1000 (Super Hawk) myself.

125 indicated on my '85 500cc. Bone stock bike. I was trying to keep up with friends on a GXXR and a V-Max. Looked down, saw the 125. I know the bike had more power and rpms left, but I chickened out. Backed off immediately, but still had a good adrenaline rush.

i too hit 125 on my 85 500cc ... in 5th .. still not redline and a gear to go ... but i have a bald front tire so i had to shut it down, i did not confirm with gps but the busa beside me said he hit the same ...but he was in 4th and he left me in the dust .... i caught up as he was walking into the store up the road


damn those busas are fast ...

About 140mph with the girlfriend on the back, but it was not flat out.
Think the girlfriend was asleep, as she did not hit me.:smile:

 

theres a 13 mile stretch of interstate here in tampa woth no exits and usually no traffic at night, my buddy got froggy on his yzf600 and looked a little confused when i caught him on my 86 vfr700f! didnt look until i actually let off the throttle and then it registered 135 'ish, dont know what that means i was really doin, but when i tell the story, of course i tell people 155!lol! and by the way, I could tell you how far to the other bank of the river.

 

I don't know how far off the speedos are, but my 2000 will hit between 150 and 155, indicated. Once I was beside a ZX9, who was on the back wheel to about 110, and his speedometer was showing 155. At top end, my bike seems very stable.

 

on my '96 VFR750:
260 km/h indicated, overtaking my buddy in his Suzuki RF600 (roll-on on the speedway, no traffic). I am sure it can't go any faster, nor would I want it to. )

 

I totally agree with you, that is why I was extremely careful to mention "indicated" speed on my explanation. I do honestly beleive I was a touch past 150; this was flat out full throttle for over 5 miles. Speedo needle was between 160 & 170, didn't stare very long just wanted to see before I backed out as I had never let her run that long before. Most likely won't do it again anytime soon either nearing 36 yrs of age I am getting tired of paying fines, rediculous insurance rates & being forced to to drive on "egg shells" to keep my license. With my 120 mile a day commute doing the speed limit for 6 months out of the year really wears on you.

 

WOW, I'm such a wuss... I've never seen triple digits. I'm sure she's got it in'er but I'm really a big chicken at heart
Plus, I'm still a little skiddish after my lay down last summer. Hopfully this season I can get some confidence back:smile:
