I am looking into ordering the Honda Factory hard bags for my '06 and was trying to get an idea of how wide the bike is with the bags mounted. I'm looking for just an apporoximate width overall. My local Honda dealer accessory counter guys are clueless, as usual, and I can't seem to find a VFR with the bags to look at locally.

Although I will get the bags regardless, I am just trying to get myself mentally prepared :brick: .

I've searched for three months and have settled on purchasing the bags and the bag liners from Rick Roush accessories for about $840.00 w/o shipping. I don't want to get them from overseas and this is the best price I could find in the US. Does anybody want to help a brother out with a secret source as to where I might find them any cheaper?

Why are you opposed to buying overseas? Can get them for $350 (USD) + shipping from the UK. I'd have to imagine that you'd still be under $500 USD tot.

If I catch this thread from home I'll take a quick measurement.

I know this might be a stupid question, but, does this include the mounts too? If it does I have suddenly gotten over my aversion to buying from overseas  . What is the source, is it David Silver Spares, I hope that's the correct name, or is it from someone else? Let me know, if I can get them for $500.00 I'll order today..:clap2: .

Edit: David "Silver" Spares - oops!

David Silver Spares Has 05 sets for 175 BP, Looks like it may be another 50 - 60 BP for shipping. Still keeping you under 500US. Assuming you can get the 06 Wht's.

Edit: I called them once, they did state they could get any color. They just needed the color code.

Edit2: I also had a dealer more than willing to match the lowest price I could find in US.

Thanks Keena, I guess I ought to thank you for instantly curing my nervousness about buying from overseas! I could pay you back for the therapy by buying you a couple a rounds of drinks, if you plan on attending the MotoGP @ Laguna or the WSBK @ Miller.

    Edit: WASBK to WSBK.

Thanks JS - I just sent an email to David Silver Spares requesting some info concerning the availability of the hard bags, w/liners. I also asked for a price including shipping if they could do the deal. I guess I'll just wait and see what I get back.

Just out of curiosity, what was the dealer in the US, in case DSS can't provide the hookup?

Are wondering if the bike is too wide for lane splitting ? i kinda had a concern about that as well when i decided to install bags. with bags bike is no more than 2" wider than mirrors. just over 3ft so you can still lane split just use your mirrors as a guide . bike handels the same with bags on.

Thanks Chomper - you must be a mind reader! - I guess when I get my mirror extenders it will only be an inch on each side, LOL! I was wondering about the handling a little too, but figured that it would be ok. You gotta give somethin' to get somethin'

That was when our dollar was rockin so saved a bunch. Especially considering the US vs CDN list prices were $300+ a part. Including the pricematch I saved about $500CDN. But still not as good as DSS. I would have bought at Rick Roush but they don't ship to Canada so quickly wrote them off. I think my dealer up here wanted $1499 , wrote that off too.

I just ordered a set of '06 bags in black for $800 from my dealer. He matched the price from Ron Ayers http://www.ronayers.com/Details.cfm?Part=232741&Misc=0 which has free shipping. I looked at DSS but didn't think they could get the black. I wish I had known. Too late now. Anyway, I got the dealer down $200 which is a small victory

:smash: That's what I was startin' to think. I loose track of these things when I'm on a mission. I think I will be a little disappointed if they can't deliver the goods. I'm thinking the potential savings would give a great head start to some of the other budgets I need to start thinking about getting funded. This stuff never ends..............

It depends what you pack in them. :)

Just swing you leg over a little different or you might get some scuff marks on the tops as your sole skips into the bag.... or so I've heard
