I've had this VFR for a little under a year now, about 43k miles on the odo.

Unfortunately I might have to sell it due to financial difficulties. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure on the bike...has one of those slick Givi trunks. Needs clutch and tires however. Really don't want to sell it, but it's either the VFR or the Magna at this point, and I've invested too much on the Magna for a decent return.

Fix the clutch and you might get 3-4 grand considering the time of year, tires and the mileage. Selling a nonrunning bike (as in the clutch needs replacing requiring someone to pick the bike up with a trailer) probably closer to 2 grand. You really should get the bike running good mechanically prior to selling.
I'd wait till early spring, replace the tires and clutch and try for $4,500.

Oh, it runs just fine. The clutch only slips a little on full power takeoffs. The 'friction zone' is all the way at the end of the lever travel. I suspect it's the original clutch.

You think I could really get $4500 with those miles but new clutch and tires?

If the rest of the bike is good (no prior drops) and you sell in the spring, yes - that's the Kelley blue book value. Miles are about at avg - 6k/year.

Nice, thanks for the info. It did have a no-speed tipover in the grass from the previous owner, so the turn signal is a hair off. He rode the sucker from VA to CA and back. Definitely has a much better back than I do.

I think you are looking around $2500 to $3000 max. Especially, you're in the East. You'll get more if you're in the West.

Eh, it'll get more than that. I paid $3500 for it, I'll probably post it for $4000.

New tires, new clutch, new factory r/r, helibars and the Givi trunk.

You'll probably get $3500 for it if you get lucky and sell it in the Spring. Especially, it's kind of high mileage bike (43K), and it's off-season. But hey good luck to your sale.

    Check that clutch problem

I'm not much of a mechanic but I wanted to pass along to you that I thought I was having big clutch problems suddenly with a 2000 viffer and was expecting to take it in and have to pay to replace the master or slave cylinder - or worse. A friend of mine had me bring it over and we opened up the master cylinder and the fluid that was left in there looked like mud. Seems that after awhile when condensation develops it can really gunk up the works. Strangely, you couldn't tell by looking at it the window that it was even low. We bled it and cleaned out the reservoir and added new fluid and everything is running like new now. Just a thought, you know...most of you sound like you are much better at this stuff than I (and I can be a real pessimist when it comes to things "breaking") but if you haven't inspected it really well you might give that a shot Chris.

The clutch is fine. My plates were thin with 45k miles on it. All the fluids have been replaced.

Ooo wow have these 5th gens dropped in price or what? Hmm I could get $5k for my 4th gen, but then

Funny or sad you could get more out west. wait a another month if you can, be willing to ship too. then you could get more. doesn't sound out of line to see mid $4s at the least in the condition you mention. Look what a newer 6th goes for and these are gear driven, don't sell yourself sort. still, I'd bale on the magna unless it's an 83 V65.
