    Faith,
I believe the agent will figure out what kind of bike it is....they gotta know make, model, VIN, etc AND cc's are included.
When I was shopping for a bike, my agent (Allstate) quoted me at <$600/yr. I bought an 07 VFR (same as quote request) and went to the office to talk with the agent. The agent then drops a bomb and says that there was a different quote of what he gave and what I bought....now it'll be $1400/yr for min full coverage. Regardless that I've had policies (multi-car, homeowners, m/c, etc) with them for over 11 years, have msf and evoc certification, over 32 and a m/c license for over 10 yrs, the agent said 'it was the best he could offer'. I went home and started searching around....best I found was Geico, quoted for half of what Allstate had with double the coverage. I then checked my SUV with them...again, about half of what I was paying to Allstate. Needless to say, I switched over to Geico; it's unfortunate that Allstate can't retain it's customers for being with them so long (and having filed 2 claims in 11 years - (1) accident, (1) natural disaster). Not only did they lose my business but now I've only 'sung praises' about Geico vs Allstate whenever the insurance question comes up!! But that seems to be corporate America....they get sooooo big and forget about what got them there to begin with.

Thanks for the info azpnshr, I had heard this years ago from a fellow that said it works and he was doing it. It did not sound right to me, but I thought I would ask and see what others thought about it. I never did follow up on his info because at the time I didn't have a street bike. I agree that the insurance company should be able to figure that out or everybody would do it.

I have a perfect driving record and the cheapest I can find in the LA area on my '06VFR (paid for) is
    $2000 per year for full
$525 per year for liab. + uninsured
$240 per year for just liab.

    Progressive here.
Liability only on my 95 VFR = $75/year. Yup, you read that right.
They said that's the minimum they can charge...it's the lowest their rate chart goes.
It's been years since I've had a ticket (lucky) and I have never had a claim on a bike. I dropped full coverage two years ago.
When I have had tickets in my other vehicles (been a while) it hasn't impacted my motorcycle rates.

I had progressive for years but they always wanted more money every time I renewed even though I have a perfect driving record,so I went with Geico and haven't had a problem in 5 years. They also have military discounts which helps me even more.

Wow some of you are lucky. I used Geico and my VFR costs more per year than my car ('07 Acura TL Type S), even with higher deductibles on the bike!

Since mine has ABS, that did drop the price a little, but not much. I think we got it down to $1100 a year. I was told by Geico that if I'd go ahead and get an MSF cert, it would drop about $100. But still!

Clean driving record, MSF and M endorsement on license, 1 cage and homeowner's insured with Farmers insurance-with all their maximum discounts due to safe driver, etc.

Their initial quote for my 03 VFR (bought with 2300 miles on the clock for $4500.00) came in at $3600.00 per year (for under 2000 miles use... )

I ride about that much every three weeks so that was a no go from the start- I just laughed at the agent.

Jumped online and came up with Progressive full coverage, $375.00

Farmers called back two days after I bought the Progressive policy and came in at $365.00...no limit on miles.

I didn't bother switching but will keep that one in the drawer in case Progressive attempts to jack the rate next year.

Adding a second bike in the spring, the rates do influence my choices to some extent. Thinking about a Yamaha YZF-R1.

there are two ways for an insurance company to say no to insuring bikes.
    1)say no
2)make it as expensive as all #%$#

So when you take your business elsewhere be sure to tell them why.
