hi guys, i have a 95 vfr750 with which ive had a few problems with
first off it had servere burning around the headlight plugs and the headlights werent working as a result
bike was still starting and running, but i decided rather than repair the old harness id buy another, so i got one from a breaker and ive fitted it
the bike starts and runs fine, everything works
    but............
when i turn on the sidelights (position 1) the turn signal/indicator warning lights on the dashboard come on and stay on, as well as the high beam warning light
the indicators themselves are not lit up, and they work as normal, even still blinking the warning lights as they are working
the main dashboard lights are very dim and as the indicators are flashing they go dimmer
when i put the lights to position 2, the main/high beam switch works as it should, but when the high beam is switched on, the blue warning light goes off
im thinking i have a short somewhere which is feeding a live into the indicator circuit, i could well be wrong though.
ive been on it all day unplugging different things trying to eliminate switches and components, ive stripped the switchgears down and cleaned inside them and found no problems apart from a stiff light switch which went worse after i cleaned it up
anyway thats my problem, if anyone has came accross this before or if anyone knows what i should be checking then please let me know
    thanx
    carl

just anoher thing to note, if anyones watching this, the new loom i put on only has one relay at the front tucked in behind the clocks, the old loom had 2 relays, will this make a difference?
and is the printed circuit on the back of the speedo different for newer/older models?

i'm sure you are using stock original turnsignals, but anyone using cheapcrap aftermarket signals made in Taiwan should be informed that they are so poorly made that they can cause shorts in lighting circuit....

I'm not sure what the problem is but it shouldn't be too hard to find. It's going to be something like a crossed wire, or a short, or something of that nature. The best advice I could give is to get a wire diagram (should be in the service manual) and using a multimeter, just start measuring resistance and checking continuity between the starts and ends of circuits. You should then be able to narrow down why when one switch is turned on, other lights come on. I don't know about the 95, but most likely none of the lighting is computer controlled, so you should be able to logically just start checking circuits, and find the path the electricity is taking from your battery, through the switch, and to the lights that are not supposed to be lit. Once you find the erroneous path the electricity is taking, you cut that path off, or correct it.

well the problem was only present on looking at the clocks so i removed them,
basically ive removed the full fairing, headlight, clocks, indicators, mountings and brackets
and replaced them with a small headlight unit and an acewell digital speedo
it wasnt my bike it was a friends i was fixing it for him,
    now its a proper bike
its just waiting on the final touches, streetfighter style bars and risers,
cut back loom and a removal of all the ugly bits honda decided to curse us with like coil brackets, ugly brake hoses, horrid wiring, damned ugly piping etc
saving quite a bit of excess weight and making it easier to ride ;)
    :painkiller:
    hehe
