Dear VFR riders. I have traded my amazing VFR for something more to my taste and needs. The VFR served me very well in my 9000+ miles of riding these past 6 months, however, I decided its time to move up a little and I bought one of the first Ducati 848s to hit the shores today. It is a beautiful white color, and I'm unable to pick up the bike untill this monday because its not officially released yet :(. But that seems fine because its only 35 degrees on average this week, so Im not really riding anyway.

Regardless, I wish all of you the best in riding experiences, and perhaps I will one day buy a new VFR to help cure the aching back I will surely get from riding the duck.

Rubber side down Ladies and Gentlemen!!

Beautiful bike. Pretty radically different ergos. Hope you are young and limber.
Please come back and give a ride comparison.
Best of Luck. Nothing like getting a new bike.

If your picking your new ride up on Monday, it better have a snowplow attached to the front. I suggest a nice, covered trailer for that beautiful DUC.

Congrats, a friend of mine in another forum bought one yesterday, he's out riding it even thou it's like 38 and raining. . Nice bike. Maybe one of these days the right time with funds will come along, I can't see myself getting rid of the VFR for one, but can see a 1098 in the garage for those frisky days. Have fun.

Wow, I just recently "discovered" the 848 and have fallen in love. It's design is so tasteful, it sounds incredible, and I love watching the videos of it on a track--nearly horizontal.

Heavier, same power and TWICE the price as a Japanese 600RR or Triumph 675. I hope the name Ducati is worth $10,000 to you.

Guess one needs to ride one to understand just what it is.. it's cool, yes not as comfy as our beloved Viffers, but oh such a soul stirrer.

Actually the bike up here is only 6k more than the GSXR 750 and heck ya it's worth every penny. I may add it next to the viffer.

True the MSRP is similar to my '06 VFR, but what a machine! Is it normal to go through a midlife crisis at 30? I hope so because I'm feeling really tempted... :decision:

Nah, I just got the VFR. I'll stick with it for a while. Maybe...

Congratulations! The Duc 848 is a canyon carvers dream, your going to have a lot of fun on that bike, the low end torque on the twins not to mention the sound and soul the Ducati's have makes it so much more fun to ride than the inline 600's I think you made a wise choice for a man of 23 years old :thumb:

P.S. Here is how she will sound with Termi's

They can't be 20k as you can get a 1098s for that kind of cash!

As far a Ducati's go, I enjoyed my 748 superbike although it was much more expensive to maintain even with me doing all the work. There was a sexy mystique to the machine, with the looks and the sound it made (termi exh). The ergos were extreme no doubt but you do get used to it although I was never tempted to head across the country like I do on the VFR. It was a great track mount! There is something about showing up for a track day with a Duc, surrounded by a sea of inline 4s. I have to say that the 4s are cheaper and probably easier to turn laps on out of the box but the excitement is missing for some reason.

I will buy another Duc when the time is right but it will be a 996 or bigger next time as the 748 was a bit weak. I will keep the VFR though because nothing compares in this class regardless of what gen you buy!

    Just my 2cents.

I'm jealous!!! I've heard they are $12-$13000. Our Ducati dealer has them presold just like the 1098 last year. Ducati is doing a great job!!! Well worth it for that bike. If I could afford 2 bikes I would definitely get one!!!

At the end of the video posted by Porschebob the narrator says it costs 9,500 British pounds. With the current exchange rate of 2.0179 the only conclusion I can make is that the 848 costs $19,000US over there but only $13,000 here in the US. Why I have no idea. Either way, it's overpriced in my book. For that kind of a ride gimme a $9,500 '07 CBR600RR or Daytona 675 any day.

Its the same with cars. I am a finance manager for BMW cars and we get more calls everyday from people in other countries trying to purchase our cars so they can save lots of $$$ and sometimes try to sell them in their country. Its strictly forbidden by the manufacturer so we don't sell any new cars to people overseas. The manufacturers control their markets as they see fit. In the US I'm sure Ducati realizes that the ceiling for this bike is in the low teens, not too close to the 1098 which is also much more expensive in Europe..... They lease them over there just to keep payments under control. $400 pounds per month for a 1098. That translation is like purchasing a $40000 car here for 60 months!!! $800/ month!!!
