Nelson-Rigg is pretty good. I've been borrowing a buddy's tank bag and the magnet points are covered with rubber and soft cloth so it's definitely not going to scratch up the tank. You do not want to get a strap tank bag because not only are they a pain to take off and put on there's the potential for the straps and stuff to scratch up your tank.

Jeff, this is the bag I purchased last summer. http://www.bikebandit.com/product/4987

It's not too big, has pockets for cell phone, mp3 player (with a portal for the cord) small map window and two nice size side pockets. The feature I dig the most is that it carries a hydro-pack and allows you to place the hose in the built in clips on the bag. Even has a built in rain cover. Some of my photos show it on my 86. I bought a hydro-pack at GI Joes for $12. It’s great to be able to drink (water) while riding along on a hot summer trip. If you don't carry the hydro unit, it gives you plent of room for "stuff".

I was reading your description before I clicked on the link, and was thinking- "that sounds just like my bag", clicked on the link, and there it was, The Rapid Transit bag works really well, the magnets hold easily, and there is a flap to tuck the magnets back out of the way when it is off the bike.

    Highly recommended!

I have a friend that has that connection assembly on a V-Strom and she hates it. I don't know exactly why she doesn't like it though. When she got another bike she refused to have that same mount on the new one and went with a large Nelson-Rigg tank bag.

I use a Nelson-Rigg CL300 on both my bikes and really like it. Large enough to carry a few things but small enough not to get in the way. Their customer support is first rate to.

Nothing like spending money on a tank bag and then can't fit anything into it. Bigger is better. Get an expandable design.
