    That sucks!

I guess I should feel fortunate my dealer seems to be fair and competent. It’s been a long time since I let anyone touch anything I had to ride. I recently sent the carbs off my CBX out to be rebuilt because I didn’t have the time to do it myself, and ended up doing it over myself anyway, and, paying someone else $600 to screw it up.

I hope it all works out for you in the end.

    UGH!! six carbs to sync!!!
I know what you mean about sending something out to be repaired.

Ironicaly, today the shop foreman called and said that the harness was in and my VFR was 90% back together!!! I have been refusing to trailer it home but it looks like we are gonna have snow showers for the rest of the week here, the cold is fine, but the white stuff scares me!

    dodgy oil lines

the reason the recall was done was because the oil was deteriorating the seals and would finally blow the seal and spay oil over the parts which really dont need oil on them (back wheel for one) its happend to a few bikes over hear but not every bike. be carfull

    happy riding & ride safe

    Safety Reacall Notice

In November 2007 I received a notice fro a recall on my newly purchased 2005 VFR 800 this past June.
Reason in the letter for the recall QUOTE" is a defect is related to motor vehicle safety regulations exist in the wirirng harness of certain 2002-2005 model year VFR800/A motorcycles" end quote.

Sated problem is as follows and I quote directly from the HONDA letter"
Under certain conditions, the ground wire terminals inside the connector between the main wiring and harness and fairing sub-harness can overheat, resulting in melting of the connector and a loss of power to various cicuits. As a result, a loss of critical lighting or engine power could occur without warning, which could result in a crash" end quote.
Honda strongly recomends not ride the bikes until it has been repaired!

This letter was from Jim Miller Executive VP Honda Canada

    Hope this helps

Great! Congratulations! Just in time for the Nor’easter heading up the Atlantic seaboard this weekend. I’m sure it will feel great getting back up on two wheels, even if it’s only for a couple of days.

I did receive a notice about a month ago on my 2004 Honda VFR 800 to replace wiring harness connector and the dealer did replace that part. Also, for my 2004, a test was made on the proportional control valve (part of the braking system) to make sure it was OK. It passed this test. Call Honda Hdq if you do not receive a notice in the mail.

Yes, that's my lady, the hard bags optional Hondaline made for the VFR. You can get them for about $1000us-$1600us at Honda but about half that at https://www.rickroushaccessories.com/store/index.php The stays wrap into the bike's lines so the bike keeps looking good without the bags in place. A warning: the guy who wrote the instructions for installing the stay kit NEVER DID IT HIMSELF, EVER. If you don't have your Honda shop install them (Pay them, For the love of God, pay them whatever they want!!!) I suggest a psych eval, a large amount of headache meds and you do the work in a soundproof location. Install in the reverse order from that shown in the instructions, keep all the bolts as loose as possible until they are all in place, THEN tighten them down. Once done, check for any place the stays rub the plastic and use a well-sized crowe bar for any needed bending. Enjoy!

More fun and games. On 12-20-07 the recall repair was done on my G6 with the front subharness grounds now routed to the R&R's grounds and the battery harness replaced completely. Last week I found a problem, the hazards no longer work. The local shop determined the recall subharness, while labeled for the 05 was actually for the 03 model which doesn't have the hardware for hazard lights. The right SH is on back order with no ETA so apparently I'm not the only one to run afowl with this screwup...

Amazing the electrical geniuses with engineering degrees .
They always like to talk electrical theory all the time.
Cannot get a proper ground wire. Cheeeesssshhhh!

HONDA needs to get motorcycle people back into the motorcyle dept.
    Not transformer toy computer people.

There were no electrical recalls in all the years I worked on motorcycles or even at the Honda dealer I worked for. Every since the computer revolution it has been OK to send out untested theoretical JUNK. Excuse me I mean products with end user "known issues".

    What a bunch of crap!!!

Also many my age know that none of these type problems started happening until the computer systems and computer type instruments came along.

I would rather just have a simple speedo hooked to the front wheel and a tachometer hooked to the coils. And a few 12v lights for warnings. SIMPLE.
Not going to leave you stranded with high tech displays out in the desert.

I feel sorry for you and if they want people to wait until November, that is going to cancel the riding for the winter for many riders.

I think it is time for the US to pass some laws about products coming into the country.
If it is a vehicle it has to be fully tested and have "no known issues" when sold.
    Same with computers.

When products come into is country or are sold in this country they must be fully tested and have no known "issues" when sold.

Sometimes a product is sold and even before a month is up there are problems, so that means they did not even test it for one month !

I work for one of the largest manufacturers on the planet and some problems take time to come to the surface and when they do come up after years of service it is very difficult to locate all of the machines. I am involved in one now and the hardest part of the repair is locating the customer to schedule the repair, hours or days can be lost in the effort. Some not to be found until by accident. I am sure the issue was due to an over confident engineer and Honda is doing what they can to rectify the problem. In short.......SHIT HAPPENS.
