Finally got my '86 VFR750F off the transport. The battery is too low to turn the starter. I know I probably just need to get a new one... now for the newbie question. I don't have a manual yet, where's the battery?

    Thanks,
    John

Well my bike is an 85 VF1000R, but I know 65-86 are both the same bike. Assuming that the 1000 and the 750 are similar, my battery is located on the right side of the bike just behind the black mesh looking panel. Your bike does not have that small panel, so you may have to take off the whole rear right fairing. It should be directly below the very front tip of the seat.

Should be behind right side cover. Do not pull to hard, usually pull the bottom out first then the top corners, or you risk breaking off the tabs/prongs. Check all the vitals first-oil, gas, clutch/break fluids, coolant, etc.

When buying used old bikes/cars, I always change out the oil/filter, check fuel filter, put in fresh gas, check spark plugs, cracked hoses, chain slack, sprocket teeth, lever freeplay, tires, gas leaks, or anything that comes to mind. They're old remember.

I was trying to break another addiction when I bought it:wink: (CB750F)

The lower stay for the left side cowl is missing. Anybody got a parts bike? Also, if someone would take a pic to show where it fastens to the bike, I'd really appreciate it. (Manual's not here yet)

    Thanks,

    John

    Sorry no pic, but...
Take of the seat. turn the lower fastner of the right sid panel unclockwis till you feel it cnocks inside, then take the fastner out. then there are 2 rubber fastners up the tank, gently pull them out. then as the front is some out pull it forward and wola the side panel is away and you get accses to the battery.
And if you have problem geting the seat off, put the key in the helmet lock on left side, turn the key, and pull down the part under the key, it opens the seat lock. pull the seat backwards and up , it should com off.

And for you saying how to open a VFR sidepanel and have a VF, its diffrent, please dont confuse the VFR and the VF, only thing common is that the engine is a V4...

Danimal, we have similar problems. My wife will absolutely kill me if I bring in ONE MORE #$%#@% BIKE! Anyway, here's a couple of pics, this is the lowest point of the right cowl, fairing, whatever you want to call it...

You can see the bracket, Now a pic of the same point on the left, no bracket.

If you've got the bracket for the left side, I'd sure like to relieve you of it. If one of your manuals is the Honda Service manual, I'd like to do the same with it. PM me or email me at jtb@softbal-inc.com.

    Thanks,
    John
