Interestingly, a friend of mine is what prompted this recall. The blue connector has been an issue Honda has known about for years, and has been telling dealers to bypass (the fix Honda told the dealers to do is shown in my post in this thread from 9/23) when the dealers call in for tech support. Almost a year ago now, my friend's VFR in Kentucky caught on fire while he was riding it; took the dealer and Honda a few months to figure out what caused it and to fix it.

Honda for sure cut corners on wiring and has caused VFR owners a lot of grief, but remember when considering a lawsuit, any tort action requires damages.

True, but I think a class action could establish a course of corporate misconduct, based on the history of the problem and the fact it predates the current VFR version and is not limited to the VFR model. As for damages, your friend's fire could be one point, the impact injury to my knee saving the VFR when she lost power in that corner another. Fixing things so this doesn't happen again would be the right, honorable thing to do. Sadly, it is something Honda apparently is not going to do willingly or quickly.

    Blue connector quick fix

    jeremy556

What is the purpose of jumpering both sides of the blue connector since the non headlight side of the connector (main harness) is already grounded.

In reality all you really have to do is go from the Green headlight side ground wire (on the front harness) directly to the tank cable bolt since all grounds are common

The ground blocks inside the harness have a tendency to go bad as well, so I figured it could only help to add another ground.

Honda's aren't the only bikes which suffer from poor wiring. I have 2 Suzukis which also have nearly identical problems w/ poor grounding. Bean counters are everywhere!

I just got paranoid and did a huge search online. All the recall notices state 02-05 and all were reported in and around Aug of 07. Since there were plenty of 06's and 07's sold within that time frame I would "hope" that they would have there you know what together.

But hey... ya never know. :faint2:

Has anyone looked at the 06 and/or 07 models to see if there's a new/different sub harness?

Ok guys, I've seen the replacement parts, a new 30 harness and the front Subharness. The 30 amp definantly looks like it's been beefed up but I couldn't seen anything different with the SH. I'm going back today with my laptop to compare my schmatic the new SH and verify for sure but the dedicated ground's job may not be done yet. Also, Jermey556, how's that dual ground deal working? I'm thinking about it but am concerned about too much of the main harness's ground traffic trying to run the one wire to your dedicated...

Well, I've checked the new SH schematic. The new SH will have two wires (G1 and G2) taking the load direct to the Rectifier's ground wires. I think this may correct the load problem up front but unless I missed something it does nothing to address the main clip overload problem...

    Hey opm81

I haven't heard about a re-call for oil lines on U.S. models? I ride an 03' and have noticed quite a bit of rust on the lines around the oil cooler. What was reason for the oil line re-call in the U.K?

I just went and picked my 03vfr up from the dealer. It took 5 weeks to get the recall work done. They wouldn't give me the old wire harness, said they had to send it back to Honda. They also tried to charge me $12 for 6 of the small plastic rivets that hold the fairing together. I told them that is Honda's fault that they had to remove and their fault for not being able to reuse them. This is the best Honda dealer around here and I was very disappointed.

Five Weeks!!! The dealer here called and told me harness was in and had it installed in half a day. On the fasteners, the dealer here also broke a few and replaced them with a different kind. I told the service manager that I wanted them all to match. He ordered the correct ones and even gave me two extra. For them to ask you to replace the ones they broke is worse than stupid IMO.

So has anyone had their bike fixed with the recall parts yet? I called the closest dealer and got a bit of the run around (IMHO). At first he said he couldn't fix my bike because I didn't buy it from them - something about a limited parts supply. I called the number on the recall notice and the guy on the phone said that the dealers shouldn't have any problems obtaining parts and they could be openly ordered. I went back to the dealer and the guy said he'd get the parts as soon as possible saying it could be three to eight days before he gets anything. I'm now going on three weeks with no answer as to when I can get it fixed.

I took mine in about a week ago and they called me the next day saying they completed the work. I also asked them to check out the cooling system while they had the fairings off. I found a few drops of coolant in the garage floor under the bike and thought I smelled antifreeze on a ride the weekend before. They found a leak somewhere under the injectors. The invoice said the spent 3.8 hours fixing the leak! The bike was all done and ready to pick up the next day, no charge. They even wiper all traces of the work off the body parts as the bike was cleaner than it was when I took it in.
