    Hello there from Melbourne,

I have been lurking for a while but figured it's time to ask some questions. I bought a non-runing VFR a while back in fairly rough condition as a bit of a cheap project. Got it back together and going easy enough to discover it has 192,000kms on it.

I don't want to spend a lot on it as it is clearly not worth a whole heap, but think it would be fun to get going to do rides with my wife. The VFR has a bit more room for two compared to my Triumph.

Would be interested to know what the highest mileage VFR out there is, as this one has to be up there. It does seem to run pretty well, but not super smooth. Does that sounds normal?

It's also a bit snatchy on/off throttle so keen to figure that one out also.

    Cheers
    Madmorrie

There are many vfr repair videos on YouTube. I just watched one recently, a bloke dea lying with a high-mileage 800, lotsa stuff needing attention and parts replacement.

there was a troublesome nut behind the exhaust that froze up, pia to remove.

If you are used to the even firing order of an in-line four (or triple), the off-beat nature of a V4 can seem like poor running at first, and as a rule they don't really like to be operated below 3K.

You may know that Honda had a bit of an own-goal moment with the previous generation (VF750F) and decided that to restore customer confidence, they would make the next model bullet-proof. Consequently the VFRs from 86 onwards are regarded as somewhat over-engineered and (touches wood) built for seriously high mileage. If you have the 86-89, then the valve gear can be a bit noisy but that is regarded as a feature not a bug.

I've got 191000 km (118750 m) on my '99, runs great but it's been kept up. Key parts are getting hard to find, good luck and enjoy.
