Thanks, Terry. What threw me was not knowing the Clutch Diode was a small square plugged into the harness just forward of the battery. That's all someone had to say. I thought a diode was something soldered into a circuit board - and fixing that sounded like a PITA! When I discovered (using Google image) what I was dealing with I said "OK that's easy....let's go!"...lol.....

I was surprised to find the diode on my ST1300 hiding in plain sight in one of the fuse boxes. It looked just like a fuse but with three spades not two. diode.jpg

Tonight was test and carb night over at my storage units.

Hooked up a fuel bottle on 2 bikes and one wouldn't even start and the other barely ran at a weak idle but stalled when given even the tiniest bit of throttle.

As I suspected - the carbs had to be pulled, which I did.

I went ahead and threw on a set I had just rebuilt and brought with me on the first one (Cold Devil's RWB '86) and it started right up!

Got the second bike's carbs off but not without some drama. One of the air filter housing screws wouldn't come out, then one of the throttle cables was very stubborn pulling out of it's bracket - and the screw holding the bracket was not budging, and then to top everything off the screw holding the choke cable bracket was a socket head - not a phillips. By this time I had sweat pouring out of my face so having to go get my allen wrenches WAS an inconvenience - but I had to just laugh it off - cause things could be worse!

But the REALLY GOOD news is I brought both carb sets home but left them OUTSIDE, so my house doesn't smell like O-dey-petrol!
