Rebuilt forks installed! Filled with coolant waiting for leaks. Oil going in now. Routing of cables is mostly completed. image.jpg Manual calls out for 100/80-17 and 120/80-17. Think I can go 110/70 and 130/70 for tires?

110/70 is not appropriate for that 2.5 wheel. The profile will get pinched.

This is the same dilemma that Hawk owners go thru. Some still do it though.

It's a flip bike, it will be fine. But if you're doing it for your benefit, it's not a benefit.

Even the 1988 CBR250R that has that exact same front wheel with a 4.0" rim 140 wide rear uses a 100 on the front.

Pinched, as in the profile is too short?
Since it is a low budge flip, I am just going to leave it and let it be someone else problem. Most buyers don't mind buying tires for their new toy anyway.

Too wide of a tire for the rim width. Even though a 110/80 is ok (CBR250R and Hurricane 600 stock size), the 70 series changes things and the tire is pinched together to fit on the rim and the profile of the tire gets ruined. You end up with less contact patch even though the tire is "wider".

Every manufacturer's fitment guide will say that a 2.5" rim is not in the recommended width range for a 110/70 and any 120. Hawk people still do it... and with radials! No thanks.

Need at least a 3.0" rim like the CB-1 to use them. Still can't believe the Hawk came with a 2.5" front. Wait, yes I can, cuz Honda.

^^ Thank you for clarifying. I couldn't get my brain to wrap around the theory.

Yep tires staying as is. Someone else can put the money in. I am going with " I got it from barn phase to running, you get it to daily or show phase".

    I love this one

    "Mechanic's Special"

I think Iconic calls them "Project Bikes".
