Front cam chain tensioners fail a lot more often than the rears, and often cause valve-piston contact when that happens. There's an easy mod you can do to the stock tensioner that stops them backing out fully and prevents that (basically you put a piece of rod in the tensioner so it can't release fully). I had some manual tensioners in mine for peace of mind. I was very fond of my VTR, only sold it as I had too many other toys. I had an Ohlins shock, 954 callipers and master, Racetech Gold Valves and 0.85kg/mm springs; it was great road bike, super simple to work on and reliable. After 02 (I think) they had a 20L tank and a fuel gauge, but no other changes of note. Mine was a JDM from 1997 and had the 180km/hr speed limiter but that was easy to correct... IMG_4018.jpg
