What is all the stuff in the sight glass and can I remove it without damaging stuff? I wanted to sand blast but I don’t want to jack anything up. Ideas?

For S&G I recently removed the oil glass from a spare VFR1200 clutch cover, and that was only held in with a rubber gasket and a little sealant. I was able to gently knock it inwards from the outside.

I had forgotten that Honda used to have that dandy windscreen wiper on the inside of the oil glass. Nowadays one has to pull the clutch cover off to do any glass cleaning.

Interesting. So if I turn the little screw it will clean the glass? I will have to look internally to see what kind of rubber gasket is going on. Thanks T dawg!

On a bike I was trying flip, I would do ANYTHING to avoid popping that glass out. I would triple/quad up some masking tape for sand blast. Maybe even sandwich some aluminum tape in masking tape.

I was contemplating getting my "good" clutch cover powder-coated as my first attempt at a repaint was garbage (soft and rubbed off); so I was experimenting on my badly rashed cover to see how hard pulling that glass out was. I have managed to get a much more durable coating (Holts Duplicolor over an etch primer) with my second attempt so I'm no longer going that route. IMG_8449.JPG

Does the clutch mechanism in the cover remove easily? It looks it on the surface, now I am second guessing myself. Silly questions. Kinda wished I hadn’t pulled it.

Sure looks like it; the manual shows the lifter arm coming away with the cover, then on the inside of the cover you lift out the clutch lifter and remove a snap ring and the return spring and the shaft can slide clear.
