I am looking for a new pair of riding boots that offer both comfort and protection. Any suggestions?

    Howdy,

I love the SIDI On Road Sympatex. They have the draw string up the front covered by a large leather flap that velcroes to the side of the boot. They are totally water proof unless the water runs down your leg into the top of the boot. But then all boots have that problem ;) They run about $240. I have been wearing mine every single day for the last three years. They were comfortable right out of the box. I have gone down twice with them on and they survived with almost no scratches or scuffing. However, both times it was a pretty low speed drop. They have pretty thick leather at the heels, ankles and toes. the only real downside is that I am not sure if they can be resoled. I drag my heels when I walk and the soles are wearing out. I also have a wide foot and they fit perfect.

    Adios,

If you want more sporting boots I would Highly recommend the Sidi Vertebra 2's.  They come in at least 3 types (regular, waterproof, and air--vented).  The '2s have adjustments in the calf so that they fit you better than most other boots and they seem to hold up very well. (I've had mine for about a year now)

I wear Joe Rocket boots. They are the bottom of the line ($99) but they provide me all the use I need (over ankle protection, fully adjustable, cover on top of the shift toe), plus they are black and therefore go with anything I'm wearing.

    Good Luck

I have a pair of the Sidi Sympatex touring boot. These are approx. a 12" boot with 4 velcro closures. They are very comfortable and are about $245, I think I got mine from Motonation. I think the boots Tourmeister wrote about are about $275 and close with a single velcro flap. Both of these boots have the same shape (last) and both are waterproof. I was comfortable down to 40 degrees last fall. They probably don't have the protection of the Sidi Vertabra, but I bet they are more comfortable.

    Howdy,

They are the GT Sympatex, sorry for the confusion. They list on the Motonation site for $275. I paid $240 for mine. They are worth every dollar.

I wear Alpinestars SMX-4. They were pretty reasonable. They are not the most comfortable boots I have worn, but they totally prtected my ankle with the bike laying on me. Not a scratch, bruise, etc. They are sporty but they don't put your foot in an uncomfortable bend when walking. I guess all-in-all I'm pretty pleased with them...

I wear the Setup Gran Prix, im very happy with them. A nice combo of a normal "looking" boot, comfort and protection in the right areas. Fair price to boot. LOL yeah, i just said that.

I bought the Sidi Strada Evo Tempor's, I didn't buy them for the weatherproofing but it sure saved my ass today amongst the rain and hail

I just purchased the Sidi B2's. They seem to be a cross between the Strada and the Vertebra.

    http://www.sidisport.com/eng/motorcycle/art_d.asp?ATp_ID=M01&Art_ID=MVB2

They are the same price as the Stradas ($220) but have a toe scuff plate and rear calf armor. The calf armor is just not adjustable like the Vertebra. Nice extra protection though. I wanted the extra prtoection for potential track days. I really liked the Strada Tepor, but man,...one toe drag at a track day and it would not be pretty on the boot. They are also suppose to be highly water resistant. I've heard they keep the feet dry in hard downpours, just haven't tried it yet.

These boots are extremely comfortable,...as Tourmeister said of his On-Roads,..."right out of the box". I can't imagine riding without them now.

I wear Cortech pants over the top of the boots for general commuting and fun riding and they look great. Outside of the leathers for more formal "joy riding" and they look even better.

Highly recommended. Really, any Sidi would be highly recommended.

For those who migth not know, Set Up boots are made by Sidi. So they should be of the same quality and comfort as Sidi. But I ain't guaranteeing that. I have Alpinestar GPS-3 boots and I love em.

I have Alpinestar Webs. Gortex lined, and when I pulled my jeans over them, only people that notice the extra layer of leather for the shifter realize I'm wearing motocycle boots. They're good in the low 40s, and in warmer temps (high 70s). Haven't had them in rain or in full daytime summer temps here, though (100+).

Very comfy for walking around work in, or light hiking, but not really made for it.

They're wonderful on the bike. Excellent feel for the controlls, especially vs. the steel-toe/steel-shanks I was wearing before (no idea if I was on the rear brake or shifter at all, just kinda move the foot around and see what happens, not good).
