    My uneducated guess is $9.5K.

Maybe more but we'll call that the minimum it reaches.

Nah, I sold both of my 400s. Just not enough umph for my daily rides and I found myself just wanting to jump on the 750 or Duc. I figure the NSR will be my "little" toy. :)
California makes it hard to own more than a couple of bikes. Reg is yearly, insurance keeps going up. For basically owning any old moto it is 350 a year per bike. That is basic insurance to boot. For more coverage it can get to $500 per year per bike if you feel the value is in the bike. The Duc and NSR are much higher value then the VFR.
Long story longer, I have to pick and choose carefully which bikes stay and which go.

One of the reasons I am downsizing is the crazy state registration charges ... bikes getting older and registration getting more expensive.

Collector Plate as in the plate is "collector" or the bikes register as collector and get a discount?

These are considered 'Collector Vehicle" plates. Last registration required. There are usage rules but it is pretty vague and open to interpretation. Also not enforced at all. They don't have the interest in using scarce police resources to enforce this non-problem. Just don't obviously abuse it and you are fine.

I still have some reservations about it, but I've never had a problem in over 10 years. And I wanted to get grandfathered-in if something changes. I'd rather get questioned about my usage on a legal plate than a conversation about why a plate (in my name) doesn't match the VIN. (Plate migration has occurred on occasion)

I can argue some kind of compliance with my usage in just about every situation. These plates are made for most of what I use my bikes for. With the number of bikes I have, they are ridden occasionally for pleasure, testing and on special excursions. And numerous official events. Nobody knows if I'm not coming home from, or going to, a meet-up.

If you use restored WA license plates
You can use it on your vehicle instead of a getting a Collector Vehicle plate through us. The restored plate must be from the same year that the vehicle was manufactured. The plates must be restored to their original design. You can't use reproductions.

    • May be driven:
      • To and from auto shows, circuses, parades, displays, special excursions, and antique car club meetings.
      • For testing purposes.
      • For the pleasure of others without compensation.
    • May not be used for:
      • Regular transportation in the manner of a fully licensed vehicle.
      • Commercial purposes or to carry a load.

Here in Florida they have what are known as "Antique Plates" - the blue ones - available for any vehicle at least 30 years old.

So 1995 & older, for this year. Which makes my entire motorcycle collection, except for one bike, eligible.

The plates are less costly and do not need to be replace in their lifetime. Just re-registered each year.

    I had like 5 or 6 really nice plates for the era 1987 - 1998. So I chose the CB-1, NT650, RC36-I (1992) and RC36-II (1995).

    I have 3 really nice 82 - 86 plates for my 86 VF500F, 1986 VF1000R and the 1986 VFR750F (still to be built... #4 and likely last 86 VFR I'll do).

Nice. In WA (also 30 yrs), they do not need to be re-registered. One and done.

"Leno's Law" tanked. Don't see classic vehicle collector and enthusiast lives getting easier anytime soon there
