The trick I've used for 20 years of riding is to clean the shield with whatever you like, I use Zook, & dry with a micro-fiber towel. Then, rub plain un-scented white foam shaving cream all over both sides of the shield. Rinse with cold water & dry again with the micro-fiber towel. This method hasn't failed me yet.

I've never tried Fog City shields but I've heard they work very well.

Had a couple fog cities on the coast to coast trip, one ended up getting torn out because some moisture snuck under it. Conditions were either perfect or summer rain, just not the right conditions for visor fogging...

I like the sound of your method though, fill me in on this Zook thing...

it simple don't breath LOL but really thats what it's all about, for me and I've tried a lot of stuff to keep this from happing, but it's really about understanding why it happens in the first place, easy, your hot breath condenses because your visor is cold. so what I do is try to breath down wards, guess what it works, but yea go ahead and give those so called products that claim they work. unless they warm up your visor or cool your breath they wont really work. I mean they help moisture from sticking, but they don't get rid of the moisture in the first place and thats what the fogging is all about. Just My two cents

Ditto here - I googled zook and found a lot of products not even related to visors like zook books, zook toys, etc... Can you spare a URL, buddy? :pout:

Scotts spray cleaner / defogger works pretty well. Not great, but pretty well. It's a good cleaner so I use it for that if nothing else. Green bottle at most bike / ATV shops.

Pinlock shields with inserts work great. http://www.pinlockusa.com/ They are available for Shoei and HJC helmets http://www.newenough.com/helmets_eyewear/replacement_shields/shoei/cx1v_pinlock_motorcycle_helmet_shields.html They eliminate the cold air on the shield exterior from contacting the inner shield you breathe on. I commute year round and when I complained to Shoei about the RF-1000 fogging they sent me a shield with insert. It will not fog, period! http://www.webbikeworld.com/anti-fog-visor/

I am unsure of those pinlock shields because of the lack of interchangeability with other shields....for instance, I have a clear and mirrored shield which I swap out here and there and can be done in 30 seconds without any tools. Can your old shield still be used without modifications or tools?

Oh, forgot the E... I see how it is. ;)

Will have to give the stuff a try. Might help with the evening mist and fogging issues it causes.

First solution is installation of pinlock, works very good even in winter no fogging at all.You can use pinlock on all helmets just drill the holes in right place.
Second is buy a helmet with antifog surface, works even better than pinlock no fogging at all, with full visibility no dead angles in visor like with pinlock.
Shark RSR helmet will do the job,it`s not cheap but worth every cent.

Fog city shields work pretty good, BUT you have to install them properly. I've had one on my Arai for 6 years and it still protects from fogging. Works on the same principal as double lens goggles for skiing.

Because of the great reviews on FogCity I bought and installed it yesterday (11/27/2007). I'm amazed at how there is NO fogging at all. Period. For a test I went outside in 40 degree weather and I breathed with my mouth and there still was no fogging. Wow!

A little tip if you're going to install it, the fog city shield is the hard plastic one not the flimsy sticky throwaway adhesive. I made that mistake and thought the sticky flimsy adhesive was the fog city product and I was like, "WTF? How can anyone install this flimsy stuff?".

I have yet to see how it holds up in the long run but even if it lasts only a year it's worth the time saved in having to rub anti-fog stuff on it all the time!

I hold my breath too. I wear a Shoei X-11 with a spectra gold shield more than $600. it has a setting that allows you to keep it opened just a little and it doesn't fog then.

oh, about the cost of a helmet. I saw this in a Honda Dealership in PA
"If you have a ten dollar head, buy a ten dollar helmet" It was funny but it made sense.
my shoei x-11 is one of the most comfortable and lightest helmets I have ever worn.

+1 on the X-11 It protected my mellon when I had a self-inflicted mishap. Oh and I replaced it with another X-11. However after reading a fair amount regarding helmet testing my next mellon cover will be euro standard.

I'm not going to start a "What's your head worth? debate" but spending more money on a helmet doesn't buy additional safety. It will buy a lighter, quieter helmet that may hold up better over the years though. I paid $116 for a Scorpion that doesn't fog up. I also bought a $300 Shoei that did fog badly. Both helmets passed the same safety checks. The Shoei is a better helmet but if ever put to the test I firmly believe either helmet would provide similar protection. The day may come when I spend $600 on a helmet but don't hold your breath!
