Hey friends, need a little help. It’s been a lot of years since I’ve worked on the bike, so forgive me for being out of practice. I’m leaking fuel and just want to verify the parts I need. Attached is the photo, is this the fuel pump? It’s leaking from the black plastic hole on the bottom, which is maybe an overflow? But not just leaking a little, it’s a pretty regular drip. It’s not coming from the hoses (which is what I had expected). Do I need to replace the whole thing? And also replace the hoses because might as well?

Also, the manual says to remove the fuel tank in order to replace the fuel pump, is that really necessary?

Like I said, out of practice. :)

    Thank you!!

That is the fuel pump. Sounds like it is ready to be replaced. DO NOT buy a generic one. You can find the newest, lowest mile used example off ebay that has a return policy. More models than just the VFR take this pump, often it's just a matter of splicing your power connector if it is not the same. I take this approach on all of my bikes. The YZF600 is another bike I have bought fuel pumps from and was made 10 years longer than the carb VFR. I think the ZX series is another. Pretty simple to see from pics. Some have a spigot style vent that can be used too.

Or buy a K&L or Tour Max, as they are genuine Mitsubishi pumps like OEM.

No need to remove the tank for just the pump. If you replace the lines, take extra with the fuel splitter T at the carbs. They are fragile and no longer available.
