I'm getting ready to start tearing down my VFR to freshen everything up. Most everything on my bike is still original and its well overdue time to go over everything. I'm looking to keep it as original as possible. One of the first things I'm starting with is suspension, pulling the forks and rear shock. I would like to rebuild the rear shock instead of going aftermarket or upgrade. Although I'm not even sure if it is rebuildable. Has anyone rebuilt this shock and if so, who did your rebuild? Thanks.

    Thanks

I had him rebuild and revalve the 86 shock last year. I haven't installed it yet but I've had him rebuild shocks for a VF750 and two VFR800s and the difference was like night and day. He resprings and revalves them to your weight.

He's modded a couple CBR shocks for my 1000s and I totally forgot he can do the 86 VFR shocks too. Cool.

I've had him do forks for me too and have been really pleased. I plan on sending him the forks for my 86 too.

I may send him my forks as well. He'll do a better job than I will, and I can use that time to address other items on the bike.

Install Cartridge Emulators. Does not change the stock appearance of the forks at all, but makes a BIG improvement over the stock damper rod forks.

You can buy an extra set of unmodified damper rods on eBay to put in your "1986 VFR stock parts" box.

Thanks for the info. After researching the data on the cartridge emulator, I agree they'll be a good upgrade.
