I have ordered from them many times. The majority of their stuff IS NOT exact reproductions. But, the items are highly customizable and they will work with you to create something that is not shown.

Just don't ever expect a prefect replica.

I understand that the VFs as a whole tend to run warmish. I am curious as to what coolant most folks have found to be helpful for running in Hot climates? Or what coolant is recommended period. My experience has led me to use Water Wetter in my bikes that were required to run in hot conditions, or at higher performance applications. I don't have any experience with V fours, so I am curious. The little bit of riding I have done this winter with my 500 has shown that at 65 - 70 degrees when stopped at a light or riding slow in traffic the temp will rise to slightly above mid point on the temp gauge. In the summer here the daytime temps are from the mid 80s to mid 90's and will commonly hit 100 plus for a couple of weeks in late summer. When I first began work on the bike I just drained the coolant in it and replaced with a week mix of water wetter and water. If there is some helpful feedback on products and mixture specific to Gen 2 VF's I would appreciate the feedback.

    Thanks

I really don't do anything "special", I run green Zerex by Valvoline. Because... it's what is at my local parts store and it is green, which I like.

On some bikes, I might run a mixture that is more diluted with distilled water if there is no chance of freezing, but I personally would run some coolant for corrosion protection.

I am not a cooling system expert or somebody that has tried numerous "formulas" on the same bike, in the same climate, to compare. In the semi-rare times it gets into the mid 90s or higher around here, it just isn't that pleasurable to ride anymore, so I don't.

Is the color relevant somehow? Don't we need to use a silicate free mixture?

Color is not relevant as long as it is a correct type. Almost all are silicate free these days. My eyes just want to see green in a classic liquid cooled Honda.

not the best idea, you need the corrosion protection of proper antifreeze.

    SM,
I did add 15% Zerex 50:50 for corrosion specific reasons. So My resevoir has a slight green caste to it. All good comments thanks. On my other hot blooded equipment I followed this regimen, 1 ounce of Redline to every quart of capacity, then 15 percent of total capacity of 50% Coolant. Redline Claims that it provides "Excellent Corrosion Inhibiter" at the above ratio without antifreeze, but still recommend antifreeze for street vehicles? I did notice about 10 t0 15 degree drop over 50:50 Zerex on both my KLR and the Daytona 900. I just wanted to hear from the V4 experts!

overheating isnt a big problem if you keep the bike moving forward and keep the revs low. sitting in stopped traffic on a hot day, youll need the fan running.

after any coolant drain and change, check level under the radiator cap after its cooled from a ride. after circulating coolant and working out any air bubbles, a top up might be necessary.

if the fan doesnt go on or you want it on you can touch the wire going to thermoswitch to any ground.

Looks like they offer 3 different kinds.:

    1. Concentrate (undiluted)
    2. 50-50 diluted
    3. For Asian vehicles

Which are you using, Capt? Thanks!

Green for Asian. Sometimes the pre-mix is on sale and makes it easy, but I usually buy the full strength and dilute it with distilled myself for the savings.

Here is a hypothetical question: Suppose you had to choose between two gases to put in your Gen2. You can use either 91 octane (10% Ethanol) or 86 octane Non-ethanol. Which one would you use? I use the 91 10% ethanol in my thumper, don't really notice much of an issue. Now that I have access to Non-ethanol I will probably try that in the KLR also. I want to be nice to my carbs so they will be nice to me!

86 Octane is probably just fine for the KLR. Just make sure to verify in the owners manual what the min RON rating is and convert it.

Most of my bikes are 91 RON min, which 87 octane exceeds.

I don't have non ethanol close enough to my house to bother. I do keep a 35 gal gas caddy in my outer garage with 89 E free for my vintage bikes and lawn equipment.
