After soda blasting and rinsing, I gave them a little polish. It's not a huge difference but gives the alum a richer tone I think.
On the left is a polished piece for comparison.
Vapor blasting would be even better.

I've done quite a bit Walnut Shell blasting. It comes out really nice too, but with less mess perhaps.

It's been a busy few months for me. I kept chipping away at the little details.....

And she's finally back on the road, 1 year from when I started this project. I've owned this bike for nearly 28 years! Felt great on the road and she sounds sooo good! Can't post the vid so here is the link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/bgzVMrmGM5LejQgg8

Looks amazing. Definitely a high bar for the rest of us—I gotta get busy, SMH.

I guess I am too late to ask if you could take a pic or explain how these rubber air intake flappy-ass things go back on and which one goes where before you clipped the fairings back on.

Anybody? There's NOTHING in the service manual. I really could use a pic.

The rectangular cutouts on the top of the pic go around the top radiator mounts.

The lower parts run down the lower frame rails. The middle small hole goes over a push pin in a hole in the frame, it loops back on itself (around what used to be some PAIR hosing?) and the bottom small hole goes over the same push pin.

Here's a pic of the right one (also the right one in your pic). It is not looped back on itself, I just let it continue down.

Is that a carbon fiber front fender? Nice Remus Slip On - I had mine for 30 years, they age amazingly, of course you have to have aftermarket shock and front end set up, then your pretty much set.

More little details... the molded plastic studs for screws on my sidestand cover had long ago cracked leaving the cover loose. I had removed it to prevent loosing it on the road. I made up two sturdy abs attachment points, dialed in the fit and glued with abs cement.
It was worth the effort to get it aligned, so now with sidestand up the cover blends nicely with the lines of the body panels

I asked a co-worker to 3D print a side stand fairing from an online site. Let you know how it comes out, I was at a bar when mine broke, at the time I just left it in the parking lot, this was 25 years ago maybe LOL.
