what is this connector? (gen 6)

    hi,
    did some contact cleaning and found this connector has some corrostion.
    what is it for and how crucial is it?

    Hmmm, no replies. Weird because this connector is part of the notorious stator system on the VFR's. I also see evidence of heat going through those wires. You best replace that part of the wiring with the "upgraded version". Look around on the mighty Youtube and you'll find lots of how to's.

    From the wire colours and position, that is the connection between the battery and the regulator/rectifier.
    There will also be a 3-yellow wire connector which is the alternator connection that feeds the R/R.
    Both are key parts of the charging circuit; the yellow connectors face much higher voltage (50V AC) and can certainly fail if they corrode, because corrosion increases resistance and resistance causes heat. If the connectors are healthy I would be applying a specific treatment like Deoxit spray.
