Hello all. I've fancied a v4 for a while and spotted an obscenely cheap RC46 on marketplace. It had been owned by an idiot and I found more stripped threads in the first few minutes than I've ever seen on one bike. But the engine started up and runs well, the gearbox was beautiful and I couldn't say no - I've spent more on a pair of tyres.

Plan to completely strip it, make sure I haven't missed any major flaw which makes other plans redundant. Replace all the wheel, swingarm, linkage bearings etc and anything else that moves. Get rid of the linked brakes (they may be better or worse but I have other bikes and I don't want to learn to ride one bike differently!). Do any engine work I need to do with the engine out (hopefully just setting valve clearances). Put lots of helicoils in! I'm under no illusions it will cost several times more than the bike but should still be a fun project and relatively low budget fast commuter/weekend road tripper.

    Things I'm currently aware of:
Front brake stuck on badly. I reckon I need about quarter throttle to get the thing moving. No idea how it even gets that way but likely not relevant if I want to delete the linked brakes. Probably by putting some different 41mm lowers on the forks and what ever calipers go with those.
Broken exhaust stud on the rear cylinders. Previous owner told me this, I haven't had eyes on. Bet it's a bastard to do in situ but probably easy if I drop the engine.
Radiator fan not working - again declared by previous owner. I'm 100% sure I'll figure this out but if there's a common fault, I'm all ears.

Looking forward to getting my hands dirty!

    Welcome and congrats!

    Pics or it isn't real...

Why would linked brakes require anything from you? I've never noticed mine, rain or shine, street or track.

It sounds like a nice project to keep us up to date on. There's a LOT of knowledge here!

Welcome!!! That sounds like a project all right.

They won't... when they're in the trash.

Keeping a properly working and maintained system is one thing. But spending any time or money actually rebuilding that system? Hell no. Money better spent on ditching it and never looking back.

Pics here. Look at it from the right angle and it actually looks tidy - but definitely a lot of stuff needs doing on it.

Well got it stripped down. It really didn't play nice...I had to drill the 380mm long top engine mount bolt out and the swingarm one. But it's finally coming together now so should be ready to rock soon. Have spent most of my time making a 3d printed brake caliper adapter.
