Just got back from a round trip from Austin to Phoenix. First day was from Austin to Las Cruces, New Mexico. There not much to say about the view... hwy 290 from Austin was enjoyable, but long straight boring I-10 al the way to El Paso. Day 2... Cruising thru the desert @ 110mph rocking out to the Moistboyz made New Mexico feel all too short. Arizona was just as nice as NM, until I got to Tucson. Whatever the road construction situation is going on there... well, makes me appreciate Austin a bit more. Phoenix... looks sorta like El Paso with less hills. One question though. WTF is the "Safety Corridor"!? I researched it a bit and my opinion points towards the Patriot Act. But that's a whole different thread, if not forum. The return trip was another testament of my stubborness. Day 1... Phoenix to Las Cruces. Speeding Ticket: 87 mph in a 75. :frown: By the time I got to Las Cruces the temp had dropped down to 44 .F Hot bath for me :bathbaby: Day 2... 38.F leaving the hotel Las Cruces to Fort Stockton, Tx never got over 44.F I would have stopped and taken pictures of all the snowy mountains and plains but it was way too cold for me to take my gloves off and deal with taking out the camera, etc... From FS to Junction wasn't so bad. Not much to say but I was so bored, I forgot I was riding.:bored: When I got off I-10 to Hwy 290 (8:30pm) the temperature felt like it took a plunge. By the time I got to Fredericksburg it was 39.F. I had forgotten how much colder the hill country is. I fueled up and did a cannon ball run. Fredericksburg to my house in Austin under an hour. A bowl for the cat and one for me. I'll post some pictures later. from the blackberry
Sounds like a great time. Glad you made it unscathed.....well, besides the ticket, but at least it was not 110 in a 75! As far as safety corridors go, it is usually a stretch of freeway/road (or all freeways in the state) with increased police enforcement and increased fines (sometimes doubled or tripled), usually because of high number of injuries and fatalities in a particular area. In short, it is the man cracking down on speeders/careless/reckless drivers and sticking them with a FAT bill. Virginia/Ohio (as well as other states) for instance have such a program. http://www.virginiadot.org/programs/ct-highway-safety-corridor.asp
Tucson roads screwed up???? HAHA, these IDIOTS here decided to do a 3 1/2 year I-10 upgrade, by the time they are done we will need 2 more lanes. If you get back thru the area let me know, I'll show ya where the locals ride:wink:
