I have bought an early VF500F2 (red/white) that has been in boxes for the last 15 years! It has a blown front head gasket. I have decided to do a full rebuild/restore starting with the frame.

    Two questions.

The Pleiades metalic silver frame paint (from RS Paint UK) needs a clearcoat. My existing frames don't look gloss finished, so is it Satin of Matt clearcoat used?

What finish is on the ally swingarm. Is it clearcoat finished?

I don't think either one had a clear coat from the factory. I have never come across failing, peeling or yellowing clear coat on a frame or swingarm.

I just walked over to a VF1000R and F and both frames are kinda glossy, but in a single stage kind of "glossy".

If the replacement paint requires a clear, I think a satin for both would be good.

Thanks. I can only get the colour as a base coat only. Satin was my guess but good to have another opinion.
