I can only think about how many things we have today, that we wouldn't, if someone asked for an opinion.

Bmart - I'm not a purist and my bike is pretty tidy but she has been messed around. The fairing needs a lot of work to make it good again, that's why I'm not hesitating to go ahead with the project. It might not be for everyone, and that's fine. I do agree that there's not much I can actually do to improve on this bike. I'm not a big believer in modding suspension because I really do believe that what you've got is a great compromise that makes these bikes work well on the road. Fitting 'better' shocks or forks often just makes them more track focused and less rideable. So this is mostly going to be an aesthetic project and I hope I do the bike justice.

The internet is a great place, everyone has an opinion and some of them are right...

That is an interesting take. Stock Honda suspension is not that good. Not terrible, but not that good. You have certainly confused 'better' with 'ill-suited'. 'modding' is not the same as 'swapping'. But in the case of a rear shock... swap that sucker out. Suspension shouldn't be a "compromise". It should be "tailored".

Aesthetics over performance is where you lose me. So many times have I seen seemingly really cool, expensive customs and then roll my eyes into yesterday at the sight of a stock shock.

powder coating is a better way than a cheap paintjob but requires real dedication.

When I say 'cool', it's a play on my concern for the bike overheating. Powder-coating will probably make the cooling issue even worse, if there is an issue. I've spoken to a lot of people now, and reviewed various papers on it and there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus. At the very least, it doesn't seem like it's going to make much difference either way, and i'm happy with that.

When I say compromise, I'm talking about a compromise between performance and handling against the ability to deal with poor roads. The roads in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where I live are pretty bad and a more track-focused setup would actually be a problem for me. I've actually seriously considered a more 'adventure' oriented setup but there's more danger of turning the bike into a pig by messing with things I don't fully understand. An urban scrambler though would be ideal here.

your engineering textbook heat-transfer theories dont hold up.

keep the fan running, and use fresh antifreese and distilled water maybe a lower temp thermostat. keep revs low.

You're right, you don't understand. Modified suspension does not mean "track-focused". It only means modified, as in changed to better suit conditions and preferences.

Your priorities and preferences are just that, yours. Carry on. Apparently, I'm going to really "love it".

Take a few images w your phone and photoshop it then decide for yourself. Of course if you decide you like black, you’re next decision is what kind of finish; gloss, satin or flat. I’d love to see it in flat deep blue-black.

If he wants to paint it pink, I wouldn’t care, it’s his bike. Why do you care squirrel-douche-man?

Well, she's in. She's getting painted black (frame and swingarm) new rear subframe (smaller) and new exhaust, probably under the back seat but maybe we can find somewhere neater to tuck it in. But, it's begun.
She's going to be all matt and satin black.

No, we're in Cambodia, not a California backstreet chop-shop. It will be done to a standard that Harley Davidson can only aspire to.

:) Probably too late any way.
I find the anodized frame to be cool and rather robust. I don't know if it can be reanodized e.g with a color.
