So im doing a Redbull Motogp replica for my RC8 track bike.

This is a combo of gloss orange & teal and Flat Blue. + lots of decals

Last week I painted the gloss orange (base clear)

This week I sanded some of the gloss orange (masking and saving the parts that have to stay gloss) to accept the dark blue, but the blue reacted badly with the orange and I got some wrinkles etc.

Have to wait another week, sand it and re so some blue.

this was my first time doing flat clear coat....that part went ok

Here is what im going for:

Here is where Im at. :

Here is the shit show part, im guessing 5 days (humid days) wasn't enough to fully cure the orange...IDK for sure. Having said that, when I sanded the orange to accept the blue, it didn't give any indication of not being cured, it wasn't sticky and didn't roll or ball up. but it happened everywhere I had the orange below the blue. (same paint brand used):

such a bummer. Does that mean you have to start all the way over or do you let cure re-sand and repaint from the start?

I’ll wait 4 or 5 days for it to fully cure, sand the problem area and do a spot blow in of the blue.

I’ll then re clear an area larger than the repair (also lightly sanded back) in the flat clear. I should be able to back mask the area , this flat clear cannot be wet sanded and buffed like regular clear coat ….or it turns shiny

I'm glad you know how to do the paint thing, I suck! My ELR KZ1000 tank had a seam issue. Probably a pin hole. Ruined my paint. I have to send it out.
    :-(

It still lokks great Cat.... I love it!

Cheers, I think I’m gonna have to use a sealer before i repaint it, I can’t have it keep wrinkling up on me.

This is the first time I’ve had this happen, I know it’s due to the process I used (one colour and gloss clear the week before ). So if I attempt such a thing again, I’ll have to alter my approach

    Thanks guys.

Started the "Fix" process this afternoon, wet sanded the wrinkles problem area and they've all but disappeared. I cant buff the flat clear (or it goes shiny), so im gonna re clear it tomorrow, just to seal it and then ill wet sand it again in a few days and re spray a wee bit of blue then flat clear it one more time.

Great job. Your first disaster is similar to a paint job I did last week on a pre-war Norton. Bought a new spray gun, managed to get the primer and then the silver on ok. Hand lined the tank, then put the transfers on. Not too shabby, but after lacquer, the transfers wrinkled a little and I have slight crazing on the top of the tank. It's really not so bad, but it's not 100%. I may redo it later in the year, but without an oven, give each layer a week or two before the next.

Is the frame lettering decals or a wrap ?
Kudos to you, I don't have the patience for that kind of work.

All the decals are made from wrap vinyl & are printed and matte finish, except for the black KTM decal on the belly pan, that a standard decal in gloss
