That 8.8 grade metric bolt is equivalent to a grade 5 ansi. It's not a hard bolt. A metric 10.8 is equal to a grade 8 ansi. It's a lot harder bolt and takes a yeck of a lot to shear it. It does look like the broken mount was cracked at some point in time. May be just a fall over could have cracked it on the edge of the tube.?

Let us all take a moment and reflect on the wonder of Walmart for providing us with these gifts.

How can "they" make stators that go in airplanes that last 40,000 hours or 8 years, and are still serviceable? And our crap burns oot quick? Price point? Anyway, stuff falling off moving vee-hickles is a serious hazard, got hit with a piece of debris that was on the road and got flung up and clipped my lower fork leg, took a good nick out of it too, marked the carrier that holds blade (rotor.) Its because we have no inspection for vehicles and junk dealers. :loco:

Cheers, and watch over loaded top cases :vtr2:

This is an old post but it might answer a question I have. From the original picture and description, it looks like the side frames were not installed. These make up about a 1cm space between the top box frame and the chassis. You cannot properly torque the top box frame down to the chassis without the side frames in place and this may be the reason the bolts failed.

Now to my question. I also want to use the top box frame without the side frames and was planning to insert 1cm aluminium collar spacers to make up for the side racks not being installed. Does this sound sensible or am I asking for the same failure to occur?
