Others here will help you with more experience than I.

It will be different for different makes and models.....but there's also lot of YT vids to learn from.

    maybe NLA ?

possibly, a seller in japan could supply ? sorry, im not a good internet searcher but i know someone here could find the best source for OEM-quality replacements.

they might look like OEM but have differences in flexibility that could deviate too far from stock ?

after all the fussing about it takes to install them, it only makes sense to use the #1 best-quality stuff, dont want to find out two years later that chinese rubber might not be best for resisting fuel vapors or raw fuel.

No I hear ya but sometimes you just have to go with what you can get.

I'll tell you something too. About 3 years ago I bought one of those bikes you buy from China that's delivered on a pallet mostly assembled. Kinda like an e-bike when they're delivered in a big box.

I shared my purchase with some of my friends on a classic car forum and many of them poo-pooed it as a low quality piece of junk that would soon fall apart.

But you know what? They were wrong. That bike has held up very well and with very little maintenance involved.

There's a FB group for them and of course immediately many of them "had to" do upgrades. Suspension, fuel, wheels, you name it. I left my 100% stock and it rides just fine.

    Order Total: $1,469.00......

I ended up ordering diaphragms from a couple of places and spent probably a lot more than I should have. I ordered 2 sets from different places on eBay and another from a different company. I wanted to compare the quality of each and install the ones I felt comfortable with. Long story short, I installed a set from JBM Industries. Yep, I know... they sound sketchy with a name like that. Anything with "Industries" in the name implies they do a bunch of things because they're not very good at any one-thing. Surprisingly, the diaphragms they sent me seemed to be of decently thick rubber material. I have no idea how long they're gonna last, but I'll see over time. I paid $86 for 4 rubbers shipped to my door. I had to use a tiny amount of adhesive to apply them to my plastic tubes. Hopefully I'm done with them for a while.

There's a lot of life-shit coming at me at once, and I don't have the time to keep fixing stuff on the bike. Luckily, most everything is done now except for getting these carbs working & lined-out. I boxed the carbs up and shipped them to Joe Nelson of V4 Dreams to go through them, clean 'em, test them, and ship them back to me. I've heard good things about him and his work. Hopefully in a week or two I'll have them back to install. More to follow.

    Nice work!

Joe will be able to sync your carbs for you while on a bike of his......so you'll just have to install and you're done. Just follow Joe's tutorial on his website to reinstall.

Just make sure the throttle cable is right, which it should be unless you messed with it when you took the carbs off.

And make sure you are using good insulators...new ones are recommended. You can get the OEM Honda ones still.

About the "life stuff"....welcome to the party pal......you're in good company. Just gotta keep going and ride it out like the rest of us.....

I shipped my carbs to Joe Nelson of V4 Dreams, and he took all 4 carbs apart and put them in an ultrasonic bath. He later put them back together with new idle jets and a few other parts. After they passed his leak-down test, he put them on his test bike to sync them with one another. Everything looks and sounds good! I'll be waiting for him to ship them back to me. I cannot say enough great things about Joe. He's very knowledgeable, and he charges a more than fair price.

I have the bike all put back together, and I've been taking small "test-runs" in the neighborhood until I build up some confidence in the bike. I went ahead and ordered all new hoses, thermostat, and fan switch while the bike has been down. I took the extra time to fully flush the system out. Cooling system is back together and tested for leaks -check!

Now onto my next problem (of sorts). This bike is loud AF!! The previous owner apparently cut the muffler baffles out, and it's just too damn loud to ride. I can only imagine what my neighbors are saying when I drive by.

So, here's my question to you all. Is there an aftermarket baffle system I can "tap/screw on", or am I looking at replacing the mufflers? I did find some gently used Kerker System K's (with a few scratches), but they look functional. My only concern is this. They (Kerkers) are sized for an 1100-1200 CC bike. Plus, their pipe diameter is 50mm where my OEM pipe is 43mm. Is this a gap too big to fill? I know some muffler shops might be able to expand tubing, but are these mufflers too big for my bike? Pardon my ignorance here, but I just don't know.

They are not too big. 51mm is standard size for most slipons and the Kerker slipons made for the VFR have connecting pipes that go from the stock pipes (right where you measured... you cut off the mufflers for the kit) and go up to 51mm for the mufflers.

Either have some new connecting pipes made or look into expanding your stock pipes to match the connectors if it looks like they would put the mufflers in the right spot to mount properly.

You could also maybe find some gaskets that would properly fill the gap and slot the connecting pipes to clamp them.

    Maybe something like this:

That's great information, and thank you for explaining that. It appears the OEM mufflers are welded in place. Are they supposed to be cut off, or am I missing something? These Kerkers come with clamps. I'm assuming I need to cut off the old, shim them up (like the example from the eBay listing you provided), and then clamp on the Kerkers? I'm a hobby welder (for 35 years), so I can weld most any mild steel. I'm hesitant to go cutting on the bike like exploratory surgery. Guess that's why I'm gathering as much information on these mufflers as I can.

Yes, you cut the mufflers off right at the weld to install the Kerker slipons.

And with how yours have been "modified", I wouldn't lose any sleep.

By the way, I happen to be doing a similar project right now and already have some gaskets on the way,

Yosh slipons that are actually made for the VFR, but I want the cross over that the stock connectors provide to eliminate the flat spot you get without it.
